Sonata No. 15 in D major, Op. 28 dating from the same year as the two previous works, was given the title Pastorale' by Hamburg publisher August Cranz. The bucolic quality is observable especially in the dance rhythms of the final movement, reminiscent of the sonata genre's precursor: the dance suite.
The Grammy award-winning pianist Daniel Barenboim has been active on the concert stage since the age of seven when he made his stage debut in his hometown of Buenos Aires. Well known for his work with the East-Western Divan Orchestra, a group of young Arab and Israeli musicians, he is currently the director of the Berlin State Opera, La Scala (Milan) and the Staatskapelle Berlin. Barenboim is described as "one of the few musicians in the world today who could accurately be describe as legendary".

I learn this complete sonata this year . I must recognize that is hard but I consider Moonlight Sonata 3rd momevent, and Pathetique Sonata harder than this. I think this sonata is the most melancholy sonata Beethoven has ever composed.

I get bored with Bach und Beethoven. Never with Mozart. Why is this? Listen. In Mozart, music is the most important thing. In Bach and Beethoven meditation on God or Kant. Wagner only followed them here. And Schoenberg. Come on, composers: Back to Mozart! Back to the Future! Jazz do It!

Hello Ricardo : I have heard this expressed before by composers. For me, as a non-musician, Beethoven touches my soul and gets into my brain - and has done so for over 50 years. I have tried to appreciate Mozart in the same way, but it just doesn't work. Attribute this to ignorance, or lack of musical education perhaps. Interestingly one other composer who has the same effect is Korngold (I don't mean his Hollywood stuff). Now, back to getting lost in Beethoven! Kind regards.

Mozart and Beethoven, are completely different in their music styles. In Beethoven, you see, powerful emotions, anger, resentment and expression which cannot be clubbed to a flow of music style. While Mozart is very lively with notes and styles which are more of happiness and joy. You also need to understand, where the music is derived from. Beethoven had a very abusive relationship with his father, lost his mother early on in life. Had so many affairs with married women, and the back drop of losing his sense of hearing only made matters worse. While Mozart has a very loving father who was an established violinist himself. If you read the letters between Wolfgang and his father, Leopold, you will understand, so much of musical discussion with elaboration. Unfortunately Beethoven did not have that luxury. Most of Beethoven's music has so much emotional stress being emphasised. Then you see, Moonlight Sonata, Fur Elise, and you notice, how Beethoven feels, relaxed but worked up. Then you hear, Ode to Joy, a piece which depicts nationalism. You go on hear, Missa Solemnis, which is like a talk to God, to him answers. Now looking at Mozart, you see it in Requiem where the Introtius, depicts minor music like never before. So, If someone wants to enjoy instant music, that person can choose, Mozart, but when you have an emotional battle, then Beethoven suddenly looks very accepting. This would be my opinion. You have both, then you have enough to enjoy in music.

However, as I enter my 70's very placidly I still revel in Beethoven. I also accept the wisdom of Ricardo - I will work harder on my appreciation of Mozart, what have I to lose? How fortunate we are to live in the age of KZbin : the feast is laid out before us. Kind regards.
