Yeah so much for the BS theory that TV violence will harm kids. I saw the show when I was eight. And remember, in order for the aliens to duplicate the person the original human must be killed. I have a memory of one ep showing a body floating face down in the water and the familar flashlight glow going over him meaning the body was about to be duplicated.

It was a boring season. The only shows I'd found interesting was the caveman and his family series and Filmation New Centurians.

I think they key to the success is the "supermarionation" gives it a kind of otherworldy feel. You had to suspend your disbelief a little bit more and if it ever got just a bit too gruesome it was easier to remind yourself it's just a story.

I had not seen this since I watched it as a child, in the late '60's. Watching it now that Im 60.....when I heard the cat screech, my reaction was 'hmmm, so that is where I got that from'. As soon as I saw Captain Scarlett, it became clear that he was my first crush on a guy! I will most definitely be wishing for Captain Scarlett to be a real person and his handsome face will be the first thing I see everyday next to me when I wake up. Finally, there is the theme song. A snippet of that song "Indestructable, Captain Scarlett" has been in my head all these years. I had wondered why that was the only part of the song I remembered, now I know.... This was a great find.

Now I'm going to include "Captain Scarlet" (1967) on my list of TV programmes that influenced me in my childhood, because in the early 1980's, the series was repeated on TV in the U.K. - Ironically, I would've been watching this AFTER I had already seen "Terrahawks" (I didn't get to see "Thunderbirds" until it was repeated in the early 1990's - my generation missed out on that, initially). This series was very dark for a children's programme (Or "puppet programme"), with themes that seemed completely alien to us (Quite literally!). It's odd one - the closing sequence of music is more memorable than any use of music in the opening sequence - not many programmes are like that.

Then I saw 'The Spy Who Came in from The Cold' recently and the sound of an arc light being turned on and a pistol shot as Berlin wall are the protagonists scale the echoed in Captain Scarlet's opening. The assailant, hearing a noise behind him while walking carefully down the alley, spins around to find CS standing there. The cat sounds off b/c it is is startled by the sudden action, and/or by the noise of the empty bottle the assailant kicked while turning suddenly. The lights are some kind of flare or high-energy lamp that allow the assailant to see CS clearly before opening fire on him.
