Very chilling report. County Gov needs to offer snake bite first aid training to the affected population for a start. Hii mambo ya kufinya ndimu, sijui mafuta taa, sijui mawe ya kunyonya sumu contribute to fatalities. Other contributing factors to snake encounters are lifestyle and environment.

This is the home of the longest serving president of Kenya, nothing to show for all the years he was in power. Just proves our leaders are all about tumbo manenos........ I am from Kiambu county, there’s poverty there too. The environmental department of the county should have a policy of managing this snakes either have professional snake catchers or introduce snake predators. The dispensaries should have the anti venom as this is common problem.

Neurotoxin venom effects: Breathing problems and paralysis (Black Mambas, Green Mambas, Forest cobras) chances of survival are minimum if antivenom is not administred in the first 30mins Cytoxin venom effects: internal bleeding, blood clot, tissue damange, may result to loss of limb (cobras, puff adders)

The county government of baringo should prioritize and stock all dispensaries with anti venom drugs proper roads rather than yapping and politicking in Nairobi

The problem will lie in the ecosystem. Mongoose and honey badgers destroy almost every living thing they can overpower. This means the birds, rabbits and other animals. This technique has been deployed elsewhere, it worked, but then the main target animal population was diminished to the point that the mongoose had to start eating other wildlife and endangered species. Kenya needs to invest in antivenom technology. The antivenom coming from the US or other foreign nation comes from snakes in that area and they aren't quite effective when used in Africa. Moreover, those snakes are usually in captivity.
