Let's remember the rules of the Breaking the Chain methodology. We set a goal for ourselves. We take one step every day to reach that goal. After every step we take, we put a cross on the calendar. After a while, a chain of these crosses emerges and a new purpose emerges from that chain. Don’t break the chain!
As always, you can download and use the calendar I prepared for this year as a PDF document from the link above. Let me give you a few little tips to make your system more successful.
Divide your goal in half. Make it easy. Simplify. It can be easily added to other tasks you do every day. You know those TV series you watch before going to bed? Instead of bingeing two episodes back to back, say "I'll watch one episode and read the novel in the other"... we divided it into two. If you say you will read 20 pages, read 10 pages. You will do it every day, not whenever you think of it. It's a very long road. To be sustainable, it must be done effortlessly.
And leave a mark on the road. For that do this analog, not digitally. So, take a printout of the calendar you downloaded. Let it be something tangible and visible. If you don't have a printer, make your own with a piece of paper, a pen, and a ruler. Work hard, put in the effort, take the trouble. Leave a mark on the paper. Get out of your comfort zone so that it is not easy to break the chain. You worked so hard...
Keep the calendar you printed or drawn in front of you. Keep it on your desk, among your notebooks. Keep it somewhere you can see it every day. That's why I especially recommend it not to be digital. Don't get lost among hundreds of apps on your mobile phone. Let it become the wallpaper of your real wall, not of your computer. So that you see it every day. Let it see you too. Your mutual gaze...
Print or draw on larger paper to make it more visible. Look, we are designing not just a calendar, but the coming year and our own lives.
