In the manga the rice cooker is broken due to Tenshinhan training, that's why he abandoned doing the Mafuuba. Yamcha isn't useless, his leg still broken. And Drum is far stronger than Tambourine or Cymbale because Piccolo is younger

Yajirobe, is one of my favorite characters and he acts how most ordinary people would in these situations but even if he doesn't want to be noble, he always seems to do the right thing when there is no one else who is capable of taking care of the problem. When push comes to shove, he's a survivor, and he isn't afraid to speak his mind, the fact that he is somewhat on par with Goku even at this age is quite impressive. The show makes Yajirobe the butt of the joke for comic relief most of the time but he has battle awareness and techniques as well he's not just a super sturdy blob who complains all the time as was showcased when he was fleeing from Goku and smashed the boulder that was in the middle of the river by stomping it with just enough pressure to propel himself across the water while also disturbing its structure enough to crumble when Goku followed suit. Yajirobe is basically roommates with a demigod.
