Barium Swallow- Esophageal Pathologies!

I had the barium swallow procedure done and I can not understand the youtube videos than I have seen making it sound like the liquid tastes so horrible. That was not my experience. It would be worse to have to drink pure lemon juice. The barium was a bit chalky but not as bad as I expected the baruim to be. Don't worry yourself about doing this test. My experience was o.k.

I am deathly afraid of the endoscope and want a barium swallow test instead. I'm going to tell the doctor that. I read in the newspaper a yr ago that some hosp here in Buffalo NY had the endoscopes contaminated - the ones that went into the stomach and into the lower colon. So that is another reason why i don't want the camera thing for my stomach issues. I was told you have to sign a paper to tell family what to do with your body if you die while under the procedure., so i am terrified of doing it. I am afraid i would not wake up. Anyone here had the endoscope? And how was it?

Still thinking about it. I guess i need more information. Doc said it's called "conscious sedation"...put a narcotic drug in your vein and you go to sleep fast. I wanted to swallow the capsule tho. Told him i'm still thinking. Might have a "silent ulcer"...very low on iron...weak so am taking iron 2x a day now. Are ya sore after you wake up? I just don't trust doctors cuz when they operated on my sons eyes as a child he was cross eyed for 2 months. They never told me that would happen, and after that he got horrible eye aches for the next 25 yrs!!! They tightened the eye muscles too tight. They denied it was the operation so i don't trust them.

Thank you for sharing. I pray they find out what is going on with me in Jesus name. I can't get food, saliva, or liquid down really. I was severely dehydrated because of it on last week, and had to be hospitalized. They had to give me fluids through IV in order to recover.

I have a dislocated hyoid bone, where it is pulled down and sitting on the thyroid cartilage, from a botched plastic surgery that surgeons are not certain to confirm even though two orthopedic doctors are certain just from palpating the area. Can a swallow test illustrate the action and position of the hyoid bone?

Why in the hell did bmc make me lay on my stomach one leg bent up and head turned left with neck crunched up on a pillow and all my body weight on my right shoulder then expected me to drying that crap in that position then lay on my back and swallow water which just went up my nose!!!!
