These programs have become a fond companion of mine. These videos have helped me through some tough times and they have become a comfort. Being a professional musician having to be away from my family often, I listen or watch these vids to keep me at home while stuck in a bunk in a bus with a bunch of numbskulls lol. I’m Extremely grateful for the time spent archiving these battle walks for the public. Having 8 direct ancestors in 3 different confederate units from North Carolina, this conflict has always captured my heart. Ranger Matt is the best!! Make sure you guys go to GETTYSBURG at least once! I’m glad that you are on the mend, by the way! Bless.

My great-great grandfather was in Company H of the 13th Mississippi. He was shot in the foot near the Sherfy barn during this charge. He crawled onto a haystack near the barn to put a torniquet around his leg. The haystack caught on fire and a Yankee soldier pulled him off the haystack to keep him from getting burned. He couldn't walk after that, so after dark he crawled all the way back to their original position in the tree line. He couldn't retreat with his unit after the battle, so he stayed on the battlefield and was captured on July 5th. He was sent to the General Hospital in Gettysburg, then to the David's Island POW camp in New York. He was released in a prisoner exchange in August and returned to his unit. The only battle he missed in four years was Chickamauga.

@DonQuixote191812 күн бұрын
@@travisbayles870 I'm sorry to hear that. It's hard to imagine the experiences those guys went through in the war. In many of the large battles, General Lee put Barksdale's Mississippians right in the middle of the battle because they were so tough. I don't know how any of them survived four years of that.

No time whatsoever to watch this now. But I’m commenting to say I will one day soon have 2 hours and 39 minutes to kill and I will dive headfirst into this. Matt is the best, a story teller with natural ability to convey the whole picture in a way that’s very entertaining from his own Southern perspective…without really being seriously biased. As a southerner I can really appreciate the honesty while staying true to history. He’s my favorite and I thank you StuffWriter for all the good work you’ve done and posted

The best strategic general the United States ever produced, Robert E Lee decided he was going to be a tactical general. And one of the best tactical general Longstreet decided he wanted to be a strategic general…. Just my thoughts.. Lee greatest strength was picking and his hands off approach with his tactical commanders .. and he broke that mold and cause died.
