BARMM-Responders in SBMA for CSSR-USAR training

21-member rescue team of the Bangsamoro government’s Rapid Emergency Action on Disaster Incidence (READi) successfully completed their 8-day search and rescue training at the Subic Bay Freeport which began on March 20 to 28, 2021.
Trained under the courses of Collapsed Structure Search and Rescue, Urban Search and Rescue, Vehicle Extrication, and Hazard Material Handling, the rescue team is composed of 19 men and two women.
Atty. Naguib Sinarimbo, BARMM interior and local government minister and head of READi, said the training, which is first in the region, provides the rescue team the necessary technical skills to respond to both man-made and natural disasters.
“As a prelude to certain emergencies in the region, we pledge that our rescue team will continue to showcase the skills and the capability they gained from the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) in any part of the country whenever needed,” said the minister.
Ranny Magno, SBMA fire chief and the training course instructor, said that the training courses completed by the Bangsamoro READi rescue team will make them a good multiplier in times of emergency and disasters in the country.
“Although you're from Mindanao, you are all Filipinos. As rescuers who are highly specialized in urban search and rescue, command structure, hazardous material incident and vehicle extrication, you are a good multiplier in making our country ready in times of emergency and disaster whether it is man-made or natural,” the fire chief said.
The Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority is the operating and implementing arm of the Government of the Philippines for the development of the Subic Bay Freeport into a self-sustaining tourism, industrial, commercial, financial, and investment center to generate employment opportunities.
“Kaya po maasahan ninyo na lahat ng pagsisikap dito sa autonomous region ay kabahagi ng malawakan nating pangarap na umunlad ang ating bansa, hindi lamang po ng ating rehiyon,” said Minister Sinarimbo.
Aside from the training courses, the minister said the region is also looking into the possibility of learning the management of an economic zone just as the Subic Bay Freeport.
“Under the Bangsamoro Organic Law, the region may exercise its authority in establishing its own economic zone. Once the region has its own economic zone, we are looking forward to learning its management from the SBMA,” he added.
The minister also noted the people-to-people relation established between the Bangsamoro region and the people from the northern portion of the country.
“We are hoping that this kind of exchange between the people from Mindanao and Luzon will open more windows and opportunities for unity, understanding and long-lasting friendship between our regions,” said Minister Sinarimbo.
