Also what I really get annoyed about is that when a person shows his/hers perfect car collection he just puts his elbow on it and “hangs” and scratches the original paint while doing so…

As a former automotive journalist I totally agree. Your observation is exact. Most KZbinrs or even car journalists on car websites produce most of their content from their desktop. Johnny is actually out there creating stories, something that has become rearer and rearer as the magazines have faded out of the picture and the channeling of advertising money has changed because of the internet. Johnny keeps the craft alive - kudos to you for recognising that ❤

I bought a running 533i in Western Canada for $400...He worked for B.C Ferries and his wife was a chef for the marina in West Vancouver near Horshoe Bay. I used to drive by that car for years and I always liked its prescence. Little did I know that years later I would buy it cheaply in a sort of worn out condition.....except it wasn't . 5-speed Getrag....driver's car. best car I ever owned and miss it dearly. Sold it for $700 to a German mechanic who knew what it was. Turns out it had a broken front spring perch [I wondered what that sometimes clunky sound was]. I had put in a new starter [remove heater hose and remove the starter bolts with typical open end and box end wrench, from the firewall area]. Loctite the banjo bolt under the valve cover when manually adjusting the valves. On the air flow meter from Bosch you needed to bend the tracking arm to give it a fresh track on the resistor board, ran like new after that. I put in a new distributor cap and rotor, Ngk spark plugs and wires.... God that car was fast with the 3300 staight six. Best engine BMW EVER made....The German mechanic's visa ran out and he had to leave the country and wanted me to buy it back but it was lean times for me and I had no money...I was barely getting by. To this day I wodered what became of that car. Bronzit Beige, cloth seats. Trx ties that were quite old, original rims.....sigh. It put ANY modern car to shame. When the BMW parts counter ran the VIN...He blinked a couple of timesand replied: "THIS CAR IS BUILT LIKE A TANK" ...in comparison to the modern BMW junk he has to deal with daily. I should look for another one...

7:47 I cringed thinking about the souvenirs my father took from various cars over the years. The worst was a pair of pliers from a car he didn't even like and didn't have for very long, a Datsun Stanza. It fascinated me as a kid to see little reminders of the cars I wasn't around for or couldn't remember, but later on I was embarrassed for the people who bought cars off him, missing little bits that wouldn't be noticed until much, much later.

My goodness, even in 1984 BMW were building cars with an onboard brain that knew the second a piece of essential hardware was not right or missing, it shut down the entire car for safety. Let alone building indestructible engines that could stand for over 2 decades undriven and then with a little TLC spark straight up again AND drive. Technology may have improved over the years, but engineering quality certainly hasn't evolved. I'd choose one of these classic BM's over any modern car without a doubt.
