Barn find! Old Two Stroke Jackhammer Revival/ Restoration

Today I'm working on an old two stroke jackhammer! It was a barn find all stuck and crusty. it took about 3 hours total to get it apart and loose. This was a fun project! Please Like, Comment, and share this video! I lost the video of resembling it so it only shows the teardown. I had to get all the rings loose and clean the bore and that was pretty much all that needed help. hope you enjoy!

My father hawe a bit more modern version of it with a cast aluminum case outside the steelcylinder (i think it's a Swedish made "Cobra"), those are still realy useful machines even if they look exactly that monstruos as it look when it's in use, the engine sound realy owerpower litterary anything nearby and the exhaust pipe breath fire and smoke and it eats even the most solid rocks like popcorn... only thing is that it can be hard to find spareparts for parts that need to be exchanged on more or less regular basis like that drillbit flange and other small parts, but those parts will last like forever if one only use it for farmwork and stuff like that, they where originally built to operate more or less nonstop day after day. And the machine will continue to work even if the flange is bad, one just need to put the the drillbit in place manually for each hole bewfore one start drilling. I think it took me about 30 seconds to make a deep hole in a granite rock to mount a rebar for my mothers new sundesk as i remember, with modern electric machines i think it hade taken several minutes. (Sorry for my English, it's not my native language...) I can absolute reccomend to make a short video of it in use if it's possible i am pretty sure it will draw some attention, especially if You can take some shots at the end when it's a bit darker outside so the gasoline flames and sparks are more visible on film. If it's possible to catch the sound listenable on a computer..

That was great i would have watched a few hours of restoration of this machine . No.2 vid of cleaning and painting finished of with some ROCK BREAKING 👍😆

i don't plan on repainting it really. i will be getting it fully restored mechanically wise. I find it a shame to ruin something that took 30 or 40 years to make should be taken away by 5 hours of painting. I would if it was all rust and no really character to it but it has nice patina so it will stay the part two will come out this winter when the snows down and is inside. right now working on some other stuff. and breaking rock will be left to the man that buys it when it done. I don't have enough guts to try more. have about 30 minutes of me trying and it was scary enough when it hit once.

That one took some work I bet. Did you use its own piston to clean the bore?

off camera i did yes. then did a quick hone to clean it good. all i did in the video was pop both the stuck pistons out.

as you would read above I did hone it. and if you would come and start it personally you would know new rings wouldn't improve it any. there is perfect compression. replacing the rings could have worsened the compression because old engines tend to have an oval bore and the new rings would seat properly causing horible compression without taking it to a boring bar wasting time and money on something that didn't need new rings. the cylinder got gas washed and wire brush scrubbed and then hones to get the rust glaze off the one side that had it.

restoration can also mean mechanical only. most just paint it in the process.
