Here in Canada, I've seen grey squirrels, on more than one occasion, chase off Red Tailed Hawks; and these are big birds ( about 15-18 inches tall). Since the squirrel in the video had leaves in its mouth, I believe that it had intentions of building a nest in the box. It would be interesting to know the outcome of this contest.

@@RobertEFuller I once remember seeing a pair of red tailed hawks resting high in an elm tree, being taunted by a squirrel who would come up quite close to them and then back off. It seemed to annoy the hawks, but the squirrel knew that he was faster than them while they were stationary. After a while the squirrel climbed down the tree, and one of the hawks saw its chance to swoop down on him. Well the squirrel got away, but it was a close escape. Hope he learned a lesson.

Yeah she was probably trying to build some shelter or find some food like any other wildlife. No judgment on it. Although I do understand gray squirrels are invasive to this region so I can understand why there would be a desire to deter them. But in terms of the individual squirrel no judgment

That squirrel is nuts (pun intended)! What made it think it could go after its own predator?
@michaelcorcoran87687 күн бұрын
It was prime real estate. And because they're invasive to the region they don't have a lot of natural predators. That is a big rodent I don't think and I was going to be able to get a large adult gray squirrel. Maybe a juvenile. Although like a larger raptor certainly could. But unlike the US there's no coyotes, there's only three snakes in the UK and only one of them would be able to eat a squirrel.

@theKNI8 күн бұрын
This is purely based on my observation of local birds of prey. It feels like they are often "run out of town" by rodents etc when landed or by other large birds like crows etc when in the air. I know the talons and beak are still sharp but they always hunt from air to ground so do they have to be in flight to actually safely make a kill whilst being largely outmatched otherwise?
@3_36458 күн бұрын
Looks like the squirrel is making a nest, or trying not to be a meal. I've seen clumps of leaves out on the ends of branches but never knew they were squirrel nests until recently. They give birth around valentine's day I think. Such a dangerous spot for squirrel nests usually over a street that i have seen. Oh and i break for squirrels.

Barn owls is built for hunting small creatures like mice, shrews, small birds, nestlings, etc. They don't take the risk of going after anything their own size though they still can be deadly opponent if something is after their life. Now if it was barred owl or spotted owl, then the squirrel would had been immediately hunted down.

In my neighbour she removed the thread woolen sweater and turn into half by pulling . These two people squirrel and pigeon they are unmannered . Though the owl such a big bird hissing she entered the house and threw her stuff.
