Barn Swallows Quilt Block

Hello everyone! Today, we are going to show you one of my many favorite Scrap buster quilt block called Barn Swallows!
To make this fun scrap buster block you need:
Color - 1 square - 2.0 x 2.0
2 rectangle 2.0 x 3.5
Whites - 4 square - 2.0 x 2.0
1 rectangle 2.0 x 3.5
or
Color - 1 square - 2.5 x 2.5
2 rectangle 2.5 x 4.5
Whites - 4 square - 2.5 x 2.5
1 rectangle 2.5 x 4.5
or
Color - 1 square - 1.5 x 1.5
2 rectangle 1.5 x 2.5
Whites - 4 square - 1.5 x 1.5
1 rectangle 1.5 x 2.5
All of those different sizes make fun little blocks.

Oh when you sewed wrong a whole nother layout flashed through my mind. That focal part can be broken down to a solid square in the center and sewn in sets of three like a star block. 2 colors would be pretty or different color rows around center. Thanks for sharing. A true teacher gives from the heart of course you could put these in a book to sell. So many layouts for this block. You could also break the 4 patch up for a unique design around the focal point. I built a design wall in my house after my husband past in 2020. Of course my pics are now stacked away. We I get stuck with a new row of my own design I put it on the wall for a few days and look at it when I lay down. Thanks so much for caring and sharing. I appreciate it so much.

I really don't think I have seen this pattern before. That is a cute block. It was a lot easier to make than I expected. I usually turn my left over triangles into saw tooth strings to add in to my Crazy/crums/scrap blocks. Sometimes I use a little half square triangle unit to start a Crazy crumbs.scrap block with.

@@conqueringmountscrapmorewi2509 Here’s what I came up with after assembling 4 Barn Swallow Blocks and watching the video through several times. 1) Cut the pieces out as listed in the size you want. For a 4 barn swallows block at once, Cut 4 sets of pieces … one for each quadrant of the finished block. To make 4 blocks at once, cut: 16 white squares 4 color squares 8 color rectangles 4 white rectangles 2) Pair 1 white/low volume square with each colored rectangle. Right sides together. On 4 of them, put the square face down on the left end. One the other 4, put the square face down on the right end. You’ll have 8 sets. 3) Do 4 flip n sew corners on the left end of each of the first 4 colored rectangles. Then do the other 4 flip and sew corners on the right end of the other 4 colored rectangles. 4) finger press open and trim off the triangles. (You can make little hourglasses with the trimmed off triangles as she does or just toss/scrap bin them. ) Check you have 4 with white on the left end and 4 with white on the right end. These are the bird wing units. 5) Sew 1 colored square to 1 white square. Repeat for 4 sets. This is 1/2 of the bird head unit. Finger press open with an open seam. 6) Sew each 1/2 bird head unit from step 5 to a white rectangle. Finger press open with an open seam. You get 4 square shaped completed bird head units. 7) Take one set of 4 bird wing units and sew to each bird head unit. Now, you have 4 rectangle shaped units with one bird wing and the bird head. 8. Take the other set of bird wing units and sew the remaining white square to the short end. 9) sew the bird wing and bird head units together to make each finished Barn Swallow block and press. Assemble the Barn Swallows in a ripple out from the center design as she shows in the video or play around with different formations for your swallows to fly.
