I used to sail through little egg inlet in my 19 ft. open cockpit sailboat . Then would go trolling for blue fish along the LBI beaches. I miss those days.

I haven't used Barnegat Inlet or Barnegat Bay in many many years but back in the 70s I had a very good friend who died coming into Barnegat Inlet in rough weather. I never really felt that I got the true story of what went wrong that caused his boat to overturn.

Forgot to mention pontoons pulling water skiers zigzagging any which way on most summer weekends. First few markers for double creek are about 6 feet wide. 6 inches in the middle of double creek at the wrong time. 3-4 years it took to fix busted markers up and down the waterway. Inside is basically deathrace2000 on the water all Sumer long. But once you bust out the jetty, life is good………..oh and no more windmills.

This is wrong. Do not follow the channel ocean side leaving or entering the Inlet. Use the north cut. Otherwise you will be in the breakers on the bar.

I used go through there in the 70s, Forget about the channel markers and navigate to anywhere there were no breakers.

WARNING: guide books warn to avoid this inlet because of rogue waves. We carried 6'8, low tide barely coming in out of fuel necessity in almost flat waters. On exit, we saw a large fishing party boat 300 yards out tilt radically. Next, a massive wave while just at the mouth. I slammed on throttle on our 54' ketch as a 30 foot plus lifted us, then dropped us. My biggest fear was slamming the channel bottom but we had managed enough distance to be spared. The dock hands had warned us as we refueled about a disaster with a sportfisherman the previous week killing the owner while riding the fishing tower when hit by a rouge wave, also.

Barnegat is a lamb compared to Little Egg Inlet on the south end of LBI

Idk I use both out of ship bottom. I find barnegat inlet more troublesome

@darenleeper1644 LEI isn't bad if you can make the cut around the end on the island. If the is any kind of swell that whole area will be breakers. Shooting out the marked south side can be a nightmare with how the sand moves. Running that shit at night in any kind of big sea is terrible. The white marlin invitational is usually fun trying to get out when it's 10ft

@darenleeper1644 when there is$100s of grand on the line you gotta go 😆. The majority of my fishing is on a 16ft and I taken that thing out to Lemkes 😆. People think I'm completely insane. Yesterday I was 7 miles NE of the 28 mile wreck and banged 2 almost 20lb Mahi and sight fished 4 big triggerfish hiding under pots along with about 6 Mahi around 7lbs. I stopped using LEI and go out of Absecon now. That inlet is really easy and I do always leave around 11pm cause with 40hp I'm not exactly able to fly lol. I'm only up that way anymore during tournaments working decks for people

Used to bring my 17 whaler to barnegat ridge all the time. That 2 stroke was a gas guzzler. Barley making it back to bobby rentals to fill back up. Used to go out for the sail fish tournaments in kw. Boat was certificate. Not my scene I enjoy fishing and those guys to worried about money. I make my money and don't mix it with my relaxation. Avoided it and shallow Barnegat Bay on trips to & from Florida by staying offshore & using Manasquan instead. NJ Sucks.
