these guys could play forever and not run out of ideas. amazing

These guys had killer chops, well into their 60's. Both of them gave us some seriously hot double time licks in this 🔥.

That is how you back up your friend while they are soloing,kids. And that is how the solo and the rhythm guitar can compliment each other. VERY valuable lessons right there! Thank you for the music,you gentlemen. Rest in peace.GOD bless

I've heard Barney live with trio live. First time when I was 17 heard ond and had'nt yet played guitar that long. Unbeliveble how he made all those chords and voicings.😀🎼🎵❤

I well remember the Great Guitars with Kessel, Ellis and Byrd. And I can't make one of them the best - they are all great.

They toured together back in the late 70's. Saw them in Chicago and from then on started (trying) to play jazz like this.

I attended a few of Barney's seminars and I remember someone asking him why he had obliterated the name 'Gibson' from the headstock of his guitar and he said that Gibson had declined to pay him for endorsing their guitars.
@MrRichiekaye3 жыл бұрын
He repudiated the model they made with his name on it. I've played several and none was very good. He was right!

Quite rare "4 to the bar" comping by Barney - very tight! Still I think Herb handles this type of accompaniment much better.
@harriheinsoo10 жыл бұрын
BeatBay Yes, 4 beats to the bar, Freddie Green style if you prefer... I'm a big Kessel fan but I feel that Herb leaves Barney more room for soloing. Listen how well Herb keeps his comping tight in the background. He's not pushing it too much and keeps the volume lower. They're both wonderful by all means. It's just a subjective, personal preference.

Terrific treatment1 But why did Barney cover up the GIBSON name on his headstock?

What guitars are they playing???
@harriheinsoo10 жыл бұрын
Barney Kessel played a modified Gibson ES-350 (CC pickup instead of the usual p90, dotted ebony fingerboard instead of the original rosewood-trapezoid). Herb Ellis played a signature guitar by Aria - Aria pro II PE-175HE.
