My dad loved this show!!! But it was the acting he loved!!! He thought it was funny but he always said these guys are such good actors. Watching it now as an adult I totally get it! It's not really about the joke it's just all these characters reacting to each other! Great show!!!

I'd say your dad had a really good eye for acting am I right?! I mean that's the kind of thing that a lot of people wouldn't really separate out you know? Very cool..... and it's a really good point. I'm sure I've been aware of that without thinking about it but I will notice it more now 😊

By far the best sitcom ever written. Hilarious and poignant at the same time with the cast working as a cohesive unit, as opposed to one particular individual surrounded by others. It’s a shame that quality television like this will never return. God bless the boys of the 12th!❤

I blamed Barney for letting Harris perform his secondary career in the detective office. He'd been doing his book writing for a long time, knowing Barney had known his involvement. However, the Captain never disciplined Harris over his literary course. But this time, Barney was infuriated with him not wearing a police uniform, stated Harris: "disrupt the work of this squad" with phone calls and promotions while on duty. Boy, I'd never seen him so angry like that. Barney spoiled Harris, so as much as he had his reason for blowing his top at him for not wearing a uniform, the erroneous one in all this is Miller, despite the fact Harris should know a squad room wasn't a place to actively do his book promotions and such.

Plenty of people back then. When the show was airing, a lot of people disliked it and said it was very predictable on top of the fact that actual police felt they were being portrayed in the wrong light. Thankfully, enough people liked it that it lasted several seasons. The show had really good writers. The show could have done without Lt. Scanlon though. That guy was a snake. Always trying to catch Barney out there.

I know that smoking is extremely dangerous and unhealthy but I was in a convenance store earlier today and noticed that the price for some were around 6.50 a pack and seeing that quickly I did the math in my head and said a sixteen fold increase compared what they were then and I've heard that they are a lot higher in some places glad I kicked that habit when they were still 2 dollars a pack!!!

The ads are from approximately 10 years ago, not from when the series aired in the 1970’s. These episodes must have been recorded when the series was in syndication and re-runs aired on WPIX. You can tell because some of the ads include website addresses and there were no www.coms when the show first aired. Similarly the pharmaceutical ads for drugs that didn’t exist back then.

Imagine his side though. They got the important stuff. Imagine if your job everyday was to deliver trash nobody asked for. Coupons for junk, ads, catalogs..... Each person could have had ten pounds of junk mail a day in NY in the 70's This kinda started people thinking junk mail was a bad idea. Eventually it'd be cut.
@kathyflorcruz5528 ай бұрын
To this day they'll occasionally find a storage shed ot similar stuffed full of undelivered mail going back years by a disgruntled mailman/lady. Been that way for a long time. Just think though - before it went Federal & (the Democrats grabbed control of it) mail was delivered twice a day on some routes. I think that was common practice until the 60s.
@aaronnelson77028 ай бұрын
Yup, I remember those days. I grew up in a small town though. Our post-office was huge for the area. Like, 20 guys. My nieghbor was one and let my dad in on thier secret. That office only hired veterans. Only 5 out of the 20 worked. The other 15 were basically no shows, because of disability. Thing was, our town was so small that the government never reevaluated the number of personal it needed for the area. The town was booming then died... Expected population vs. Reality. 5 guys worked there, but it only took 4. 16 guys got paid for nothing. AND.. everyone was fine with that because the veterans got fucked by the government so bad, that the litteraly stollen paychecks were over looked. They all got retirement pentions too. Lol...

God l miss this show I remember when it started I was just a kid, it was winter and I was just 7 or 8 now I'm a shit-ton closer to 60 than I'd care to be and I still love this show but now the only place I can watch it is on u-tube! And why is that? Because I'm not going to pay for cable TV that has less on it than my phone that I'm already paying for! Good God am I old I remember when if you had to make a phone call you had to go home or find a payphone, wich were everywhere. Now I'm not a statistician but I'd be willing to bet that today in 2023 nearly 2024 you would have a better chance of finding Bigfoot then you would of finding a functioning payphone! At least in my Town of Nashua NH anyway. But getting back to watching Barney Miller on U-TUBE, ever time I see an episode and they do the opening scene and then cut to the theme song and opening credits and they show the twin towers still standing I get such a pang! When are we ever going to learn... No matter what your beliefs, one planet one species! Realize it or loose them both
