Despite the challenges of his bipolar disorder, he maintained an infectiously positive attitude, irrefutable love for life, and endless generosity that brightened the lives of all who knew him. His spirit reminds us that now is all we have... It reminds us to live now to the fullest.

Can't believe I hadn't seen this video tribute until today. It was such a joy watching Barney as he grew from the wild little grom to the man he became. He was a most unique individual.... you couldn't help but love the guy. Miss you Barnster

I remember I had a lot of beef with him when I was a kid. Never really remember having a reason but I remember one day on a early early dawn partol he was just scrreeaaamin and it was so early I just had to say something... I remember sayin to him, hey man, we all fuckin surf here too bro, lighten the fuck up. He paddled over to me looked me in the eyes and said, man, no one is ever out here this early, I was just letting my jungle man out. Join me on this next one let it fuckin rip. From that day on I was the Beav and that was it. He kept the lane a place for everyone. I never new he had passed till today and I will say he was a legend to me and I never forgot that day.

Thanks for the EPIC video! I had the opportunity to get to know Barney a bit back in the first days of Volcom when he, Troy & Hmmm....one other braddah came to Maui & stayed with Tai & me in Haiku. What a positive & classic brother & ripper. always smiling always mischevious. Happy Trails Barney
