Like the SB220's that you know I love so much, I know they're still in service but those buses could go on for a lot lot longer if Arriva showed them some respect, I'd say the SB220 is probably one of the best buses to hit our roads in the last 20 years

Hello I'm making a short movie in the attempt it leads to the saving of an old Leyland Lynx bus languishing over in Ireland. Would it be possible to use a few stills from this video? The movie is underway and I would of course credit you. Cheers Stephen

Personally I'd say that the suspension is quite good, it has a really heavy body to carry around so in terms of the chassis and suspension they are quite good if you think of how big and heavy the bus is. Think of it this way, the old SB220's are far faster than the newer VDL SB200's, and the VDL's have a more powerful engine and are a lot lighter. Personally I find the SB220 to be quite nice, apparently they're lovely to drive unlike the SB200's which are "okay" I've been told

Do they still have the Rossendale Lynx round the back? I'm aware that there could be a surviving one.

Why do thy do this to old British buses because in my opinion each one of them should be rescued and put in restoration so it can be put in its former glory
@PreservationEnthusiast

+Alex Lee There doesn't exist the people in those numbers willing to spend money making pleasure trips in old vehicles. So, no revenue to support your idea. Restoration costs money and we can't clog the whole country up with shedfuls of old transport that nobody wants to use. Lets break and smash the old stuff and melt it down to make useful vehicles.

@@PreservationEnthusiast At least some should be preserved, but yes, new vehicles should be used for public transport, while most of the old ones should get scrapped, and a part should survive (some converted for other uses, such as for sightseeing, while others should stay in original shape).
@PreservationEnthusiast
@PreservationEnthusiast Жыл бұрын
@@dujmerdujmer7132 I was replying to a guy who said each and every bus should be preserved. This is totally ridiculous. The numbers of people wanting to see 100's and 1000's of the same bus clearly do not exist. Yes a few will be preserved here and there while the rest will get recycled. In essence, I am agreeing with you and disagreeing with the original poster.

@@PreservationEnthusiast Yes, some must be preserved, but I live in a country where almost no buses have been preserved (less than 10), and we produced a few hundred buses per year 30+ years ago. We have about 5000 buses, and about 10 are in museums, or in some form of preservation in here, and they have been usually imported a few years ago. Almost nothing survived that drove here 50+ years ago. What a shame... And yes, of course, while many should be recycled (I think it's a pretty cool process too), it's really f*cked up to know that you can't really ever see a bus older than 95' in my town. That sucks... Btw, I live in Croatia and we unfortunately don't have a bus museum like you do in the UK.

+Shannon Delaney Personally I would go on there and smash out all the windows and bust up all the controls in the cab.. These buses need to to smashed apart and recycled and new buses built. We can't have the country overflowing with redundant cars and buses and trains. We'd be overwhelmed with scrap. Your statement is ridiculous.

+Shannon Delaney. Nothing lasts forever. You need to to be less sentimental and move with the times (no offence). Always look forwards and never back as living in the past serves no purpose.

+heelfan1234 People in the future will never know what buses used to be like. Someone said to me that Scanias have NEVER been built with Voith gearboxes, but they don't know there used to be N113's that had them, but now there is none left to show proof that there was. So I just have to pretend they had ZF gearboxes and sounded like Omnishitys!
@PreservationEnthusiast
@PreservationEnthusiast 8 жыл бұрын
+Charlotte Clarke There's always books, photos and internet forums full of anoraks to discuss such issues. We don't have to stockpile mountains of scrap to demonstrate a Scania had a Voith gearbox. Besides, only a few bus nerds are interested in such issues. 99.9% of the people are interested in modern day transport and what is going to take them to work tomorrow. People are not interested in preservation in sufficient numbers to justify financially preserving vehicles in the numbers you envisage.
@charlotteclarke4665
@charlotteclarke4665 8 жыл бұрын
heelfan1234 But how do you prove it? I've had that many disagreements with people as to weather N113's actually did have Voith gearboxes, I've started to question if they ever did.

Weak chassis, poor suspension, comedy electrics, and a gutless engine, that's an SB220, one of the WORST buses to hit the roads in the last 50 years! Cheap and very nasty

+harry mcandrew I would go into all the old cabs and smash up all the controls and break out all the windows. I love scrapping stuff, I do. It doesn't matter if it is a routemaster or not, I would still bust it up. Everything has to be broken to pieces and scrapped to make way for new stuff!

koopa7277 No, it is fun = happy. Not sad at all :) These old buses need breaking into small pieces so they can be recycled efficiently. Just imagine if we kept every old car or piece of machinery or object. The world would be overwhelmed with junk and scrap. Scrapping and recycling is a green and very worthy process.
