What makes Zemo unique is that he's a villain who is trying his best to stop others from becoming villains too. But at the same time he knows that he is a villain so he wants someone to kill him to stop him, he even tried to kill himself too

he is more like an anti-hero, and death to him means very little. he has nothing holding him back, and no family to go back to. he only has his "mission", one was to turn the avengers against each other, and the other was to end "supremacy" within these super soldiers at any costs necessary. he was ready to off himself near the end of civil war once his job was done, he has gotten vengeance for his family, and can peacefully join them in the after life.

@@grahamhill676 zemo just planted a bomb at the UN and let it set off to frame bucky. he did not specifically target anyone, and you are right. he did kill innocent people. however, he does not take joy in killing the innocent, but rather, he sees it as a means to fulfill his motives. just like the avengers, the heroes in the eyes of the rest of world, they leave innocents dead in the wake of their battles. dude is exacting his form of justice, and he goes after those who have very little hope in stopping. i believe this TV show has shown us how disgusted zemo is regarding the power loophole of specialized humans. he was willing to kill the super soldiers, whereas sam and bucky was still wavering about this whole situation. zemo has guts and determination that many true heroes do not have.

Sure, you could say his ends justify the means but he's more of a villain or anti-villain than an anti-hero. If we only had Zemo from the series yeah he's an anti-hero, but nothing he does will wipe away what he did before. Deadpool is a great example of an anti-hero, he's destructive and mean, but he doesn't kill innocents to achieve his goals. That, imo, is the difference

I love his character. He’s smart, person with a compelling background and understandable motivation. He lost it all to people so powerful that in his eyes they took everything from him with no regard. He apologizes to Bucky as soon as he sees him in the 2nd episode..

He didn't even really set out to kill the king I think...more just set the bomb walked away and was willing to let the dice fall where they may...sure that the Wakandan's would hunt down Bucky for him just for the attack alone.... That's not to say he would have called off the attack if he'd known in advance of it killing the king such was his resolve to see the Avengers cast down... He clearly took no joy from hurting innocents...but was willing to do so should that be the price to be paid to see his task completed...

I think he crossed off his name on Bucky's book because after seeing what Bucky has done ever since they started the mission together, he truly believed that Bucky has changed and is a new man now. With that, he knew Bucky would not kill him. Also wanted to add too is that when they met again in episode 2 Zemo called him Seventeen. That's because he still saw him as a brainwashed killing machine. Now as they bid farewell Zemo calls him by his real name, James. This confirms that Zemo knew that he is himself again and not the Winter soldier.

In FWS, Zemo mostly seemed a different person from Civil War. However, in the two scenes where he looked at the Doctor, and held the serum, you could see the mixture of emotion in his eyes. All that grief and rage came to the surface. Daniel Bruhl did such an amazing job portraying him. Hope we see him again.

I'm so happy they didn't just made him another HYDRA agent who has an obsessive desire to kill Steve Rogers. He's on the different level of complexity in the MCU, his morals and code are what made him special. I loved him since Civil War after her dropped the lines "To see an empire fall". In that moment I already know he's not just some kind of angry man who wants revenge on the Avengers. He has his own beliefs that gods among men cannot exist because they only bring greater destruction than actual saving. Beautiful video. I sometimes forget that he lost EVERYONE, and that he attempted suicide in civil war. When Bucky pulled the trigger of the gun and it fired nothing, you could tell Zemo was anticipating his death, accepting it. He really is a tragic villain.

I for one could never hate Zemo. Even in Civil War. He is right. Having people to look up to all the time can create monsters because you forget to look at yourself and only think that one person is the best and forget that you are also that one person and so is everyone and forgetting that ceates fanatics, radicals, religion. and endless crap.

The writers in the MCU are amazing. They really ought to coin a phrase for taking an otherwise fairly forgettable member of a superhero's rogues gallery and turning him into someone complex and layered. Freeze'd? lol Either way, Zemo was a memorable villain in Civil War, and he remains so in TFatWS. A villain, or hero, you rarely see. If superheroes are modern interpretations of the larger than life Greek gods and demigods, then Zemo here is unique, because you never see a hero in those old tales who manages to turn the gods against one another, using their own very human failings.
