Fun times in the Baron. I really enjoy riding with you and looking over your shoulder, etc.. If you ever get up near or to KMQJ, let me know and I'll motor out and shake your hand, perhaps even buy you a soda or coffee. Cheers from Indianapolis, IN. Back in my mid-late 30's I worked at KMQJ as a lineman and for the most part it was a lot of fun - being able to be around the aircraft and such. But being the very last person to leave on a very cold, clear and windy night - AND the fact that I has a few airplanes to put to sleep - AND that fell down on my tailbone while heading to the tug.............I think you can see where I'm going with that. To this day I can still remember slipping on the ice and going down --- HARD!

Nice headsets! I think the audio is much better with yours - very clear, and no drop outs whatsoever. Love all the new camera angles. Nice being able to watch the flaps come down, and how close the wheels are to the runway, and we get to see your hard core concentration when landing, too. :) I'm also able to see your fuel consumption very clearly, and see the differences from taxi to takeoff - it's a BIG one! About 10x more at full power! You probably don't want to know that, HAHAHA! 😁 If I could monitor that in my vehicles, I would - super interesting. Great stuff. Looking forward to the avionics replacement vid. I've been a mechanic for what seems like my entire life, but I've never touched any aircraft before. I'm always interested in the inner workings. Thanks again for the flight, and congrats on the new gear! 👍

As a mature pilot am sure you do, and it's funny when you tell some of the young people it..and they look at you like you're an alien from another planet, lol. But I embrace technology, and love where it's going, being able to file a flight plan on say..ForeFlight for example, and have it be able to easily load in the FMS is amazing, and have it be able to identify other craft one in the air..actually be able to zoom in and touch on them and have their heading and other details is just such an advancement from where even I started. It all makes for a safer and easier environment in the air though, and that's always a good thing.

Your voice seemed to go up in pitch after you landed? I wonder if altitude while higher in the sky had something to do with it? I love the sound of the twin engines when you take off! Do you have to worry about engine shock flying at the altitudes down there in Florida? BTW, I didn't know about cooling the engines too fast was a problem and learned that by watching air videos on KZbin....Is that a problem on all piston aircraft engines? Oh, I'll shut up now:)

Hi Baron Pilot. Your videos are a great help. I’m trying to learn all I can using my Baron 58 X plane simulator. If I may ask you a few questions. Regarding VFR, do you ever fly that option or do you always go IFR? What is the max distance you are willing to fly VFR? Given a beautiful day, how do you decide between VFR or IFR for yourself? Thank you sir!

Hello, what would you use the feathering setting for on your throttle quadrant? I know it has to do with taking a bigger bite of air, but when would it be used during flight? Sorry if I missed your explanation on this. Thank you and great video!

If you had an engine shutdown you would feather the props to reduce drag from that engine.

Nice day to fly, and the sound quality is great. Thanks for the review of the Lightspeed; I'd been considering it but this decides it for me. That's going to be a tight panel with everything in it, the audio panel, the two IFDs, the transponder and the radar. Are you going to move something to the far right panel, under the engine gauges, maybe the transponder? I mean, it might all fit, but trying to look over, under and around that second iPad to see the radar, that's going to be a bit of a stretch. I mean, if you had an RDR-2000, you could display it on the IFD550, but that's the only radar it supports, accoding to Avidyne's website. Of course, you could trade in the AXP340 for the AXP322 and go fully remote with control from the 550 and 440. If you're adding all of this, are you also going to add the SkyTrax 100 system for ADS-B in, or are you going to stick with the Stratus 2S? Got another questions for you. The flaps and landing gear, particularly the landing gear lever. Is that just a simple switch, or is there connections to the back of it? I was thinking it is no more than a switch, is there any reason that you can't relocate it to somewhere else. The flap switch, with indicator, may be a bit harder to relocate, but if you could reposition the landing gear swtich, you might not have to be a contortionist to reach it! lol. Anyway, thanks for a great video, looking forward to your next one and seeing the results of the upgrades.
@BaronPilot6 жыл бұрын
I believe I have just the right amount of room to make it all fit. Worst case I can also go with a remote mount transponder. I already have the Skytrax100. ;-) I'd love to relocate the Gear switch, but that will have to wait if I ever go full glass.

Different strokes...I prefer to fly by feel rather than by numbers. Neither way is right or wrong
@BaronPilot6 жыл бұрын
I agree neither is wrong. And there is a lot to be said about being about to feel what the airplane is telling you. But knowing the numbers can save your life. Say you’re flying and your static port or pitot tube gets clogged. Let’s even say you are IMC. You are coming in to land without an airspeed indicator. What do you set your power to in order to be at your desired approach airspeed? Let’s also say you forgot to charge your iPad so you don’t have GS from a gps.
@mattbasford62996 жыл бұрын
Baron Pilot I understand your point. Of course when you are in imc or on an instrument approach, you must fly by the numbers. What concerns me about many pilots is that they have so much gadgetry in the cocpit, that it becomes like a flight sim. What happens when one of those pilots lose his airspeed indicator on final? One other thing, I would never file ifr on a clear day. I much prefer to look out the window and enjoy being the pilot rather than managing systems or an iPad
