3:10 Yeah, that's a type 3 AA Shell that was specifically made for that Yamato. They weren't good, but thats still an 18 inch AA shell. In fact, all of the AA the Yamato had was just terrible. So much so in fact, that the US lost more planes when her ammo detonated than when she was shooting at them.

@@Stella-gm7bo not entirely certain, Drach's video, which is where I've heard this from, didn't really use a lot of quote regarding the sinking of the Yamato, but that sounds pretty accurate to how it ended up being.

@@Stella-gm7bo well, in regards to being too slow, the 18 inch rounds could fire put to a significantly longer distance than the standard AA shell, so that part didn't matter. As for wearing out the guns, I'm not sure, I'll have to see about that.

Baron! The easiest way to identify a dive bomber or Torpedo bomber is that Dive bombers generally have those wings that start out flat but then curve outwards, whilst torpedo bombers have straight wings.

You can also look if they have a torpedo or bomb Anyways you can't be for certain using this but is a fun way to identify between the TBF/TBM and a Dauntless besides just looking for air brakes on the trailing edge of the wing Good comment

The AA flak fire that comes from the 18.1 inch guns is cause from a certain ammunition they used called the Beehive round. This was a shell filled with shrapnel and metal shards that were sharp. It is also filled with with flammable liquids like phosphorus I think. These would explode mid air making clouds of shrapnel. Even though in theory they were pretty good, the large guns couldn’t rotate fast enough to track aircraft accurately.

⁠@@KleinesStein, isn’t the citadel an armoured box - usually amidship - within the hull of a ship? It’s main purpose was to protect the vulnerable internal areas of the ship, and in some cases help with keeping the ship afloat by creating an enclosed air pocket which (hopefully) couldn’t be penetrated by enemy ordinance.

7:56 This mod is based off of Operation Ten-Ichi-Go (or Ten-Go, both are correct) where the goal was for the task force to beach itself and defend Okinawa until the task force was destroyed. Dropping off troops wasn't really the duty for battleships let alone any warship, that duty was for the landing craft.

Iirc the goal was initially to get the ship to I think cape Town or somewhere in Southern Africa to allow more construction but own US sub found the location. The Japanese thought it was an entire Wolfpack and redirected the ship to make a final stand But I may be thinking of another battle ship or even the massive super carrier

USS Tennessee is a WW1 era battleship btw, she was although she was refitted after being raised from being sunk at the attack on Pearl Harbor. You can tell she's an old ship because of her hull design (dreadnaughts were phased out by the end of WW1) and her gun caliber (the world largely had moved on from 14" guns and onto 15" and 16" by most of WW2). Not to mention most battleships and even battlecruisers designed in WW2 were almost 50% larger than her by displacement with much heavier armor. She and her sister dreadnaughts, although were refitted to better suit the needs of the Pacific Campaign, were relegated to convoy escorting, shore bombardment, and coastal defenses, as their very meager speeds of 21kts could not keep up with fleet carrier operations. The correct way to to simultaneously attack with 500 aircraft. Doing it 4-5 at a time would end the same way. There should be 3 or more other carriers to make it an equal fight.
