I have both Italkim and Sephardi Ancestry on both my mom and dad's side. My dads side is descended from the Nadal Hendrickson family of Utrecht Netherlands, which was a sephardi family who came to the Netherlands in the early 1500s from the Spanish Island of Majorca. Though not practicing, I am very proud and honored of my sephardi ancestors. Shalom!

My family is from an isolated region in Mexico. Somehow, they've managed to keep many Jewish traditions alive even though they were ranchers. I'm proud of my Sephardic Jewish origins, and I'm prouder for returning to my people.

In the 17th century 25% of the population of Mexico City was made up of Spanish Jews, It is fascinating thta your family still keep some of the old customs.

Amazing piece of music. Proud of being the living offspring of this courageous people who fled Spain and Portugal to keep their faith. Part of both paternal and maternal family came from the dutch Antilles to Venezuela during the XIX, Portuguese jews.

"In the years that followed the banishment of the Jewish from Spain in 1492 by the Catholic Monarchs, about ninety-three thousand jews took refuge in neighbouring Portugal. King Manuel I was by far more tolerant to the jewish community but, under pressure from Spain, he made their conversion to Roman Catholicism compulsory in 1497. (...)" in Wilipedia

the esnoga tacky... what do you mean... the esnoga was the biggest synagogue in its time, it was build according to the rabbis teachings how a esnoga should be sephardic one, there are alot of sephardic 16 century polyphonic composers and baroque composers from portugal who made excelent music

@badsign1980 Being Jewish is Beautiful.You are chosen by God.You are special to Him.You have first place in His heart.He is the creator,just think, first place in the creators mind,heart,eyes.You may go through a lot of hard times, but be paitent and wait, in the end it will all be worth it if you just keep your faith in Him. : ) to be portuguese is beautiful too...Abraham was a friend of God because he trusted in Him. you do the same. I love the Jewish people no matter where you're from.

Hello, where can I find the scores for this piece? Thank you in advance.

I found it in the University of Michigan School of Music library. It was published in Israel by Israel Adler.

@@mezzosopranodeParis thank you so much! I didn’t think you would reply so I asked a friend from Israel and she just could get hold of the Halleluia , so I will sing this last bit, this coming October 8th here in England. I was looking for a Sephardic Praise music to insert in this Interfaith concert só I was so glad when I found your recording, helped immensely, thank you soooo much and I will get the rest of it. It’s emotional because my husband’s family is originally from Amsterdam and they attended the esnoga for a century before moving here.

Who knew, The Baroque is just for the Lutheran's or Bach.
@TASSOS19657 жыл бұрын
That's not baroque music, Lidarti belongs to the classical period, he is a contemporary of Haydn.
@rsdfwdsa7 жыл бұрын
He was born 20 years before Bach died and this is clearly in the Baroque style.
@TASSOS19657 жыл бұрын
So Haydn is also a Baroque Era composer according to you? Sorry but you are TOTALLY wrong here pal...
@rsdfwdsa7 жыл бұрын
Don't call me "pal" while trying to insult me. He wrote this in the Baroque style - even the CD calls it Baroque music. Do the artists not know? Can you not tell by the style? Are you a trained musician? Your comment about Haydn is a straw man - I said nothing about him.
@TASSOS19657 жыл бұрын
Haydn was also born 18 years before Bach died! You used this argument for Lidarti! I have seen CDs with music by Andre Gretry, etc, labeled as baroque, this does not say anything at all. At the end of the day you can believe of course what you want...

@badsign1980 Oh dear oh dear, it shocks me to hear you're embarrassed at being Jewish! Is today's Portugal anti-Semitic? (Or anti-Israeli, masking what is really anti-Semitism?) ALWAYS be proud of being Jewish! (My own ancestors came from Portugal, but became Ashkenazim after moving to Germany.) And what lovely music, too!

@MikJFr you our proud so why do you write jewish capital? I m just joking! it is great to be jew but it is also great to be a non jew still belonging to the people of isrä'el guess how it can be? it is the only way since only the promissed people are the chosen search and you'll find this is true thanks for this great music!
@jmmarques196212 жыл бұрын
I am afraid there is some mistake in your sources of knowledge. Portugal have not burned Jewish people. At that time Portugal politically has assumed the end of Judaism, but has maintained "Cristãos Novos" - New Christians and the synagogs that can be visited. I also like to remember you that in 1492 the Catholic Kings from Spain have executed and order the expulsion of Jews in Spain. However this did not happened in Portugal.
@Heavenlystar9878 жыл бұрын
During the inquisition, crypto-jews were actually tortured and burned when found out. You can check the punishments in documents at Torre do Tombo.
@Heavenlystar9878 жыл бұрын
At Torre do Tombo website you can find documents from that time. (the website doesn't work in the weekends if I'm not wrong)

Tami C again, that was because the inquisition in portugal was spanish centred. The inquisition fought with the king and was against the restoration of the kingdom of Portugal. João (john) IV was favorable to the jews and much of the jesuit clergy openly confronted the inquisition policy in Portugal.
