Staff Sergeant Baumeister is a barracks sergeant in the Wilhelmsburg barracks in Ulm. He has all the keys and takes us into the depths of the Wilhelm Fortress, the Wilhelmsburg (Reduit) and Fort Prittwitz. Staff sergeant Baumeister explains the connections between the buildings and the strategic refinements. The viewer sees corridors, stairways and rooms that are normally only accessible to the barracks commander and his team. Some areas of the exciting facility can only be accessed with a flashlight. What are miners? What is an escapade? What were the toilets like? How about the water supply? All this is explained in this video in a clear and entertaining way. At the end of the video, Lieutenant Colonel Messer uses a historical map to give us an overview of the Ulm Federal Fortress as an overall concept.
The Wilhelm Fortress is part of the federal fortress of Ulm and was built between 1842 and 1857 by Karl Ernst Moritz von Prittwitz and Gaffron. The Federal Fortress Ulm was designed as a defensive fortress and is on the direct route from France to Vienna.
