I build the 30-SG for Barretto manufacturing out of LaGrande Oregon. Just a few pointers. Keep your RPM up to 3500 . That can be read on the hour meter located below your throttle. Keep your gas tank full. It doesn't take long for that Brigg 31 HP to go through 2 1/2 gallons of gas. If you do run out of gas and refill the tank and it won't start ,pressurize the gas tank by blowing into the filler neck to prime the engine. I have been building the 30-SG stump grinder for almost four years and i can say it's a great piece of machinery.

Awesome, thanks for the tips! I really enjoyed using it and if I wanted one for doing occasional stump grinding work I would definitely look at getting this machine!

Where can I buy parts for these? The Hydraulic piston that lifts the disc is leaking oil. I believe it loses power because of that

Yeah for a rental I thought it was a great piece of equipment. Not something I'd want to grind stumps with all day, every day because its just not efficient enough but for a homeowner with a day to kill and some stumps to remove this thing can save you a lot of money over calling out a contractor.

@BrianIsdale
@BrianIsdale 2 жыл бұрын
@@brianbarreras8116 I did! The machine is great. However it needed some tlc. One of the track levers needed adjustment, as the tracks weren't tracking evenly. And the side to side ram needed new seals as it leaked. But that's the way it goes with used equipment, you have to be prepared to fix it up. I especially enjoy its compact size, I can tow it behind an suv or small pickup It's so light.

I'm getting ready to rent a stump grinder in the next few days. My options are a Toro STX-26 or the Barreto 30SG. I can get a Vermeer but I don't like the bar by the head. I think I would like the Toro's controls better. Up, down, left, right with one hand and forward, back with the other. Not so with the Barreto. Up, down with one hand. Left, right with the other and forward, back with the third. The Barreto has a 140 degree swing, I don't need that much. Hopefully I can limit that. After viewing every stump grinding video in KZbin I'll probably go with the Barreto. I can get that from Home Depot and I'm hoping they maintain their rental equipment better than my local rental. They have more resources so I hoping the teeth will be sharper. Plus the Barreto has it's own trailer and it seems like a better built machine. Time will tell. Thanks for the video.

I rented this yesterday, imho I’d rather watch a tree grow for it’s lifetime than watch myself grind a stump with this machine. The rental units are best to shit by renters. Moving this thing forward was slower than a snail. The grinding wheel bucked or stalled the engine and I was just barely hitting the stump. It takes days. Very frustrating machine for the size and drama of it… does not do as well as it seems. Maybe folks just have sharper edges on those grinding wheels. I’d never rent one again unfortunately. I rented it for 3 days hoping to grind 20 stumps a day which should have been no problem and returned it after 1 day because I was only able to complete 14. Not this big either! Also, the choke is a joke… it’s flimsy and can easily dislodge from its connection point. Good job to this guy I just wouldn’t recommend renting it much less buying it.

Good job for the first time you need to start further in front of the Stomp to get your depth and then you are work from there back

How deep did u go below grade? Looks like u went really far. I was told u can grind the stumps to 3-4 inch below grade is plenty to grow grass if u finish with top soil seed etc… just pickin ur brain on this whats ur thoughts?

The Barreto makes a good machine! As one of the leaders in the field you may consider you may want to contact the factory rep as the local rental has no interest in your satisfaction: They just want your money?

you are supposed to start in the ground infront of the stump and work your way in. you started way too close. the wheel should not be coming down ontop of the wood, only part of that wheel cutting should be between 7 and 10 o clock.

I have 20 stumps. Nothing this large but they range from 1 foot to 3 foot in diameter. Would this be worth to rent? I got a quote from an arborist to bring his 90hp turbo diesel unit out to grind them all up in less than a few hrs for $1250.
@vashon100
@vashon100 2 жыл бұрын
I would certainly question the few hours. 180 minutes / 20 stumps = 9 minutes per stump? Stump grinders here rent about $300-$400 per day. What rental prices have you found in your area?

You just can't bog down a gas engine, the torque curve is more peak-ey. Keep the rippems up.

That big 52" stump probably took like 2 hours to grind it down as low as I did, though it would have probably been quicker if I had known what I was doing as this was the first stump I had ever ground and I got better and more efficient with it the more I used it. It is a great machine!
