Barrie Ontario CN Newmarket Sub - Heavy Freight Traffic Towards the End

September 14, 1996, just about a week to closing of the Newmarket Sub through Barrie and Orillia, and we see the second half of the North Bay Job - #450 - southbound around the bay and passing the Barrie (former Allandale) Station. By that time, action on this former division point was pretty much down to the North Bay freights and Via Canadian, as seen in "Barrie to Parry". Remember seeing some of the archives at the library, if correct Barrie wanted the tracks gone not CN. They wanted the area for tourists, could you confirm.

The Newmarket Sub, that was a mainline. No ribbon rail?

Secondary main. Ribbon rail from the Allandale station north, but jointed rail to the south.

Not much....Via 1/2, North Bay 451/2, Collingwood job, which was served by the NB job.... Midland run was gone (See LTfM) as were the Uhthoff stone trains.

...but then, for anyone who lived in Barrie in the '80s 0r '90s up to 1996, who enjoyed the sounds of a heavy southbound freight rounding the bay and whistling at the many crossings, and relished the anticipation of what they would see as the train approached the beautiful, but decaying and derelict former division point station, the early part of this video has special meaning. My Canada is never boring.
