@@JTCrossingsUK No - the crossing alarm system was working PERFECTLY. The "train" crossed and the signals ended it's cycle. However - the TRAIN stopped barely CLEAR of the signal circuit, which was reactivated IMMEDIATELY as the train's brakes allowed the coupling slack to "expand" the end of the train - back into the signal circuit. thereby "triggering" as if an approaching train. It was the rear end of the stopped train that was FOULING the signal circuit itself. Nothing malfunctioning and thus the sigs & lights AND a "delayed lowering" of the barrier arms - were as normal. The major problem was all the road traffic that COMPLETELY IGNORED RED FLASHING DANGER WARNING LIGHTS. Stopping (as that car did) in the wrong position - isn't a fault of the crossing alarm barrier at all - it is faulty stopping - period. When the driver of the car should NOT have even been attempting to cross, an already LONG TIME of "flashing red lamps". We all know - car drivers assume they have "time" to cross, long after the lights start flashing - but in reality - a VERY FAST APPROACHING TRAIN - (one that will be activating them normally) - "arrives" into the crossing within 17 seconds of them activating. Take the DELAY between the start of the lights flashing - to when the physical barrier also comes down - and you DO NOT HAVE TIME - to cross. Only a fool breaks the two second rule in following distances (behind other road users - or four seconds in the rain) - and ONLY a fool - goes through ANY red light, steady or flashing - at any time. Several vehicles there, all went sailing through - BOTH periods of red flashing lights, both BEFORE that train arrived, and after, when it "back-set' and reactivated the sigs. There was absolutely nothing after that - that would have prevented any other train, thundering across that crossing.. The fact that none did - just meant that all those idiotic car drivers who ran the "flashing lights' - were saved - by having a physical barrier across the road. NEVER complain about the way crossing alarms / barrier arms activate - without having a damned good knowledge - of how the actual electrical circuit that is "wired" across and along the rails - for 1/4 mile either side of any crossing. Especially when they activated as normal for the train that slowed and STOPPED (briefly outside - but not quite clear of the alarm circuits). They reactivated as designed, when something - anything - activated an alarm function - such that the barriers & lights worked to warn road users - of an IMPENDING train .. Note: IMPENDING also relates to anything that isn't a train - that shorts out one or other of the approach tracks - or the mid section of the crossing itself, hence - sorry - but those sigs were working perfectly.
