Law enforcement escorted people out of the barrier islands due to dangerous conditions following Hurricane Helene. Pinellas County Officials said barrier islands will remain closed.

Many of us still lucked out here as there was no direct hit. Fort Myers beach was 100X worst after Irma. It looked as though half the area was tuned to rubble. Most of the trees were all gone without a trace, even the palms. The palms that did survive had no leaves. Several homes lifted off their foundations and floated away too. Sadly, one day we will get a direct hit here.
