I am a guitarist, and I was awake in the middle of the night thinking about how this piece would be great on piano. This proves that I was right! Fantastic performance, with just enough additions to make it properly pianistic. Bravo!

Fabulous. Beautiful rendition. Thankyou so much M. Matarrita! This is one of the rare pieces written for the guitar that sound good on the piano (usually, it's the other way round), which shows the quality of Barrios' composition. Hearing this enables guitarists to play the piece better, hearing the structure of the music beyond guitaristic gestures and moving fingers quickly. Others might also like to hear the Villa-Lobos préludes in piano transcription (can be found on youtube).

As Paraguayan La Catedral is really a paraguayan classical music mixed paraguayan polk (guarania) played on acoustic guitar but it is incredible that it is played on piano, I also heard it played on the Paraguayan harp, but it's incredible that it turns out well on the piano. I can't believe La Catedral can be played on any instruments 😮🤩

Saludos!

As a guitar builder from education (Royal Conservatory) and a piano tuner (my work) i totally agree with you. The musical timbre of a piano is totally different than that of a guitar. I like La Catedral on both instruments, but they just bring their own feelings. You can't change the musical timbre of an instrument. I personally feel the piano version as 'softer and warmer' than the piano renditions, whereas i feel the guitar versions more 'to the point' and 'brighter'. Definately has to do with the way of agitating the strings: plucked against hammered. Listen to the version on harpsichord (here on KZbin) and you will hear it's more 'direct' and 'sharp'!

One day, while on my way to school, I looked up in the skies. A sound like distant thunder. In the blue skies far above me, contrails drew dizzying circles around in a crazy waltz; a battle in the beautiful skies far away. I could not tear my gaze away from them. A deafening roar. Sharp silhouettes appeared, as if to graze the hills, and streaked past me. The fighters played the cat or mouse in turn as they climbed swiftly into the sky. One fleeing plane fell out of the sky, spiraling and spewing orange flames to crash by the cape. The same cape where my family lived.

Very musical rendition. The piano, naturally, changes the character of the piece, and that's how it should be. The keyboard's greater sonority adds an impact not found in the guitar version, the latter of course benefitting from a greater lyrical intimacy and somewhat more color. The transcription was nicely discreet regarding changes to the original. On first hearing I didn't detect many.
