It would be enough if his legacy was just his work in Magazine, or the Bad Seeds, but his solo stuff is so cool. I saw this video back in 1988 for the first time while eating at Mariscos Apizaco in Tlaxcala, Mexico. Just goes to show that good music is enjoyed everywhere.

Gorgeous tune, and is that Marcia Schofield (Khmer Rouge, The Fall) as the dancing girl? Nice!

I used to have the album this track is taken from. 'Moss Side Story' on Mute around 1990 or so. Barry Adamson was definitely a New Wave pioneer and played Bass for Magazine and the Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds before solo career. Many interesting collaborators on this album too and it attempts to play out a Noir film soundtrack to being a black guy growing up in Moss Side. To those outside Manchester its a rough neighborhood of this UK city with reputation for gang violence. A friend of mine was a punk from the start and as he was also Black, i figure he must have found it inspirational to see a young black guy playing bass on Top of The Pops though i never chatted with him about it. This track is based on Otto Preminger's sountrack for a Noir Frank Sinatra movie called 'The Man With The Golden Arm', from a Nelson Algren novel and no prizes for guesing what the title is referring too. Unusual role for Sinatra and mb thought left field role may win him an Oscar. Anyone whom has seen The Godfather knows Jonny Fontaine is Sinatra asking for favours to get a movie part. 🕊️🍀🌟☃️

Sinatra was also great in The Manchurian candidate, one of my favourite films.
