Thawne made it even worse when he murdered not just Barry's mother, but was the cause of his daughter fading from existence (essentially dying). And yeah, we can say that due to the timeline and what not, she's back and such but THAT Nora is not the same one Barry got to meet and bond with. And I'm not invalidating the new Nora, but she still died because of what Thawne set in motion. Barry's been through so much, so he's proven himself beyond a shadow of a doubt, that he can endure any pain. Because that is what it means to be the hero. "Keep hope alive. We have to be greater than what we suffer." Paraphrased from Gwen Stacy in ASM2, but still it's apropos.
