Hey Conner. One of the challenges is there’s so many possibilities. Have you played around with, using D dominant 7 as the example, a scale with D dom 7/ E dim, or D dom 7 #4/E dim. I.e. D E F# G G# B C C#. The idea for D# +4 (or b5) is start with Eb dim and lower the non-consecutive notes Eb and G a half step (analogous to forming a Maj 6 chord from a dim chord. You can play the scale over an A pedal, and it “resolves” nicely to the D7. I’m really enjoying your Barry Harris vids.

is it possible to use the F#m6 6th diminished scale over D7? since they both come from D sharp diminished? i think that the answer is no because you are changing the tritone structure, but still we preserve two notes from D7(F# and A), so I dont know kkk

Hi Connor! Really great vids! But just one question: How can I harmonize the 4th scale degree on a dominant chord? f.e. the C in a G7

Glad you enjoy them, Albert. For G7, we have a few options: Dm6 diminished scale, Abm6 diminished scale, G7 diminished scale, or G7b5 diminished scale. In the G7 diminished scale, we alternate between inversions of G7 and Adim7, and Adim7 has a C in it. Though, I'm curious as to what tune you are trying to do this is for context. Hope that helps, C.

@@ConnorJazz! Thanx for your immediate answer! That helps! but when I use the Adim then there is no chord for the 6th degree (E in G7). Do I have to switch between the scales? ( the context is I'm writing a crossover arrangement over a piece of Bach, and the notes are Bb, A, Bb, G, A, F, G, E over C7)

@@albertwieder558 is the underlying chord G7 or C7? If both, then yes, you would need to switch.

Hey Connor...it's a bit confusing to me..if I'm playing a song in G major and want to use the 6th dim scale to harmonize my notes..shouldn't I be using G6/Adim7 (G A B C D Eb E F#G) only...?.
