1. I feel like a lot of the first 1/3 of the song has a lot of Richard Carpenter feeling to it. Or I've been watching too much Carpenters. 2. Late 80s ? Sounds really new. 3. His performing style does not change with age. I wonder is everyone is like that.

The song is from the 1978 album "Even Now". There are much better performances of this song out there. One of them is considered an "acoustic" version which was done as a bonus track on his "Greatest Hits of the Seventies" album. Give that a listen (it's on KZbin). Gorgeous vocal. Best I've heard of all.

Hi, just found your channel. Saw Barry and had to stop and watch. Just subscribed. EVEN NOW is my favorite Barry song. Barry wasn't my first concert but the first I went alone with a friend. (before were concerts with family members) I saw Barry 4 times in the 1980s. You stood in line overnight in those days for tickets. 10th grade was my 1st Barry concert and I remember my mom saying not to pass out. Yes, I was in love with him then. I remember thinking, "pass out?"..."No way and miss the concert".. 🤣

Jaybriel Akoi I believe he’s a very very nice guy! Totally loves his fans. If you ever watched American Idol, one of the last season I watched, probably 10 years ago now, he was on as a guest arranger and arranged a bunch of newer hits in different ways for the contestants. Man, is this guy talented!! All of them sounded really good a different way. And seeing him on there and his interactions with younger singers, he is yes, very nice 😃❤️

One of his best albums that came out in the late seventies or early 80's and that is what the album was called. Nor Richard Carpenterish as if you had heard the original, his voice is unfortunately different. He still does many of the performancing things he did early on when "Even Now" came out, only not quite as dynamic as when it first was recorded. Only one exception to that is he still could hold that note at the end of "Even now". I have been following Barry since 1974 and know mostly all his songs and the way he performed and sang them at different times of his career. Thank you Jaybriel for looking at this one by Barry.....................................Betsy Basile

Barry Manilow's song "Even Now' was released to radio a month before the album in 1978 I not only love Barry Manilow's music but I also love Karen and Richard Carpenter. Barry's "Even Now" and Richard Carpenter's "Now" the two songs chorus's sound a little like they echo with different lyrics music sounds the same. Karen Carpenter tracked the song "Now" in the studio the night she came home. She died from a heart attack her Anorexia had weakend her heart too much. Here are the lyrics "Now" Now, Now when it rains I don't feel cold Now that I have your hand to hold The winds might blow through me but I don't care There's no harm in thunder if you are there And now, now when we touch my feelings fly Now when I'm smiling I know why You light up my world like the morning sun You're so deep within me, we're almost one And now all the fears that I had start to fade I was always afraid love might forget me, love might let me down Then look who I found [instrumental solo] The winds might blow through me but I don't care There's no harm in thunder if you are there And now, now, now when I wake, there's someone home I'll never face the nights alone You gave me the courage I need to win, to open my heart and to let you in And I never really knew how, until now, until now No, I never really knew how Until now

You should check out the live video of "Another Life".. Early 90's.( Posted by Barry himself.) One of my favorites is some concert footage around 1979 where he chats with the audience, talks about writing jingles, and sings part of the Dionne Warwick song " I'll Never Love This Way Again". (Daily motion video " All the Time" live at the Wembley Arena by White Label Promo). He also made some actual videos for some his songs like Lets Hang On (an old Frankie Valley cover)...that one will make you smile! 😀

The problems i find with a well-known artists who has grown a big catalogue over the years is that when they perform live in their "later years", they simply can't compete with their younger selves. Don't get me wrong, the old guy still sounds pretty good, but he has that older singer vibrado in his voice that is distracting (to me). Good for him for being able to maintain a career over the decades (was he still performing up to pre-covid?). I just have these kinds of feelings when I see/hear elderly performers and singers.

What I find interesting about Mr. Manilow is I have always loved most of his songs. He's a great writer and musician. However, I have never really liked his singing voice. At the same time I cannot imagine anyone else singing his songs. I don't want anyone else singing his songs. they are unique to him and to his voice. Richard Carpenter would not be able to sing Manilow songs. I think Karen did a couple of his songs and they were nice but only Barry can sing them in the style they need to be sung. Barry has written for other performers but they are written to match their voice style. As far as your reactions they are peculiar to me. You come up with the oddest things to point out and you mention very little about the artists themselves. You like and are drawn to things that no one else would ever look at. At times I think you are only hearing the instruments and the artist is just an afterthought.
@jaybrielakoi77474 жыл бұрын
ya so I'm a brass player so if I'm not paying attention as much to the singer it makes perfect sense and I'm sure you're right. When I'm backing up a singer I'm not paying attention to him at all because that's none of my business. As for his voice....ya I'm kinda right there with you. His voice ain't the greatest but it has to be his voice with those songs. I think I just like Barry as a whole. I remember in High School my band director talked for like 15 min about how he didn't like Barry's voice and thought he was out of tune often....then he proceeeded to talk all about how he loved barry for the next 30 min. So ya I think we are in good company of many. But lets be honest....it's not the voice for him...it's just him.
