BARRY MONCRIEFFE IN PERFORMANCE

The Company celebrates the contribution of former Artistic Director Barry Moncrieffe affectionately known as "Uncle Barry". He was a noted artist, brilliant performer, exceptional dance tutor and a great human being highly respected for his warmth, compassion and kindness.
Moncrieffe served as "the clay" on which on which many leading roles in the NDTC's repertoire were moulded for some three decades. He was the principal guardian of the NDTC system, the depth and breadth of his contribution is incomparable. As a mentor and teacher par excellence, his authority and scope of influence extended far beyond the NDTC. He was a gentle giant who created significant and lasting impact on the entire Jamaican dance community.

Waking up and watching this brought back alot of memories for me in his classes at Edna. Now I know what he meant when he said 'pointe those yam foot' that's because his was on pointe!!! Thank you for this Marly and may he continue to rest in peace.

This is such a fitting tribute. I thank the Ndtc for sharing this and having it etched in history. Many of the roles played by uncle Barry showed the beauty of the society at the time. He portraited roles well and brought the slave, the rastafari and the people of Jamaica to life. Clean lines, his connection with the subject at hand and his versility were a gift to his audience. Thank you Ndtc and thank you Uncle Barry for what you have given us. Sleep well my uncle, until we meet again.
