What a refreshingly honest interview with Harrison Ford, clearly he is an intelligent, very insightful man. He enjoys that success has brought him the ability to choose which projects on which he works. His goal is to be recognized as an actor, the rest of it is not that important to him.

Intelligent, insightful, and incredibly grumpy. His acting talent really shines through when he convincingly plays a likable and charismatic character.

@@andyjohnson4907 Well said, Harrison definitely has an edge, as you say 'incredibly grumpy'. My two favorites with him are Raiders of the Lost Ark, and Regarding Henry. Two very different characters.

@@maple1255 Yeah, Regarding Henry doesn't get the love it deserves. I remember really enjoying Mosquito Coast, which is worth a watch if you can find it anywhere.

It's crazy that there's no guarantee you'll be in the right place at the right time to make it. I can completely imagine there being another up-and-coming guy, just like Harrison Ford, who was in the wrong place at the right time when Star Wars was being cast. And now that guy is living an ordinary life.

rewatching this with the sad news of Mr Norman's death.. I think this may be one of the most relaxed/talkative interviews I've seen with Ford. And I get what he meant re tech - I remember SW coming out and most of my age group were all about the spaceships and light sabres. I had to get a bit older before I appreciated the people side..

"I found Barry Norman to be an annoying, pompous twat!" Norman could be like that but to be fair to him he was one of the few leading critics to acknowledge the greatness of Spielberg long before many other critics acknowledged it starting with Schindler's List.

The begining the guy said Harrison was overwhelmed in the past by the technology and the action .. what a thing to say, the guy stood out in those iconic films ..

Yes, Harrison Ford was overwhelmed in "those" movies...of course, that´s why he is stll here in the business in 2016 ! No special effects can overwhelm an actor like this...I mean, look at him...

Christian Springer-Haslbeck Star Wars fans cannot stop quoting how much they love Han and Chewie and the witty dialogues in the original triology .. of course there are those who love the fighter ships and gadgets but those fan boys are hardly the majority ..

There's some truth in that actually. He wasn't taken very seriously by critics until he got his Academy Award nomination for Witness. He's still never won an Oscar despite being probably the most iconic and popular American film star of his generation, if not all time.

Interesting that he said back then that people don't go to the movies to see special effects, they go for an emotional connection to the story and characters. Ha! It seems the superhero craze has now created an audience that seeks the exact opposite

I like how Harrison said he was just looking for “ STEADY WORK. “ 40 years later in the movie industry as he’s one of the highest paid actors in the world who really doesn’t NEED to work now. But when movie studios are willing to pay you anywhere from $50 000-$50 000 000 for a role?? You KNOW YOUR A DAMN GOOD WORKER. Sorry. ACTOR!! Lol.

Yeah, people go to watch DC and Marvel films in the 21st century, to get an emotional connection? I think when he said this, he genuinely and probably believed it. Lol. How things change. Hollywood at the end of the day, is a business like McDonalds. They will just serve up, whatever customers will just continually want to lap up. And in this case, it's these big DC and Marvel movies with the big special effects. He also believed back then, that he was not going to to do another Star Wars movie. Lol

I can tell the year simply by Harrison's hairstyles. This is not 1985. He was in Rusty mode here (aka Presumed Innocent) so it must be 1990

It's definitely 1985. He talks about doing another Indiana Jones at some point in the future, which would be The Last Crusade (1989) which preceded Presumed Innocent. Here's my blog about that whole tape this interview was on. It's definitely 21st May 1985. It's even from a programme called Film 85, vhistory.wordpress.com/2016/02/28/dr-who-and-the-daleks-tape-53/
