I was just thinking that I have been learning horse sizes by the sound of their feet and the speed of their pace. It was really cute to hear the mini-Shetlands and the Shires right behind. The information about terrain being a major factor in difficulty was important. I still wonder, at the rapid pace the smaller animals have to move to get somewhere, what their distance capacity might be.

Scurry driving involves pairs of ponies racing through pairs of cones - without knocking the balls off the top - to see who can go fastest. Scurry and trials driving is basically the same (not limited to pairs though) but with driving trials "obstacles" as well as the cones. More information can be found at the relevant websites: google "British Scurry and Trials Driving" or the "Scurry Driving Association".

Too cute for just about any English word I can think of, lol. Just a question, though. Isn't doing this a bit like riding on a motorcycle without a helmet? With the ponies galloping as fast as they can, the carriage bumping over rough ground behind them, wouldn't it be easy to hit a hole or a rut, bounce around, and send the driver ass over tea kettles into the grass? I always hold my breath, watching some of these vids!

In official competitions with the 'big' horses it's not allowed anymore to drive without wearing a helmet.

I have always liked ur clips but do u not think she drove them little pony's a bit hard

I think your whole rig weighed less than one of the shires--team included!

I don't understand why they use the reins as a whip though. They shouldn't do that. I just wonder, how much can a team of shetties pull? I have several shetland pony's and I'd love to drive again (had big horses) but I'm not the lightest person around. I get different answers constantly.

They are not using the reins as whip.

We drive 14h ponies and we have a shety at 9h and you can feel the power more behind him than a lot of bigger horses I've driven and I still grin from ear to ear just like the girl in the video when I drive him and I'm older and possibly bigger than barry go out and enjoy your horses and ponies

Shetland ponies are all character and work ethic, in harness they excel. At a guess a pair of shetlands can work a carriage of 400kg but you get out front and pull it first. They are incredible workers and were never meant to be kids ponies, a bit like Jack Russell Terriers.... they may be short and tiny but they are working animals by DNA....Cheers

@@ladygardener100 Yes they are. Yoy should never use the reins to hit the horses rump for speed, that is one of the purposes of the whip
@chiennoir89614 жыл бұрын
What the heck??? The driver should NEVER slap the equines with the reins! Proper use of a whip is the correct way to get more impulsion.

Fine video. The owner should be very proud of the little fellows, and herself. What color are each of them? I couldn't really make them out as typical Shetland colors. Are they clipped? Talented pair. Seem to be working well together, too.
