The Kinks are revered by US musos. I moved from Willesden Green to Brooklyn in 1997, sharing an apartment with a band (incidentally Kevin Ayers’ last album was recorded in the basement of that apartment). One of my apartment mates said: “Willesden Green? like the Kinks’ song?” I didn’t know there was a Kinks song of that name. And I considered myself a Kinks fan.
@grguitaracademy51443 ай бұрын
I saw the Kinks at Madison Square Garden on the Give the People What They Want tour and not only was it sold out, but it really seemed like half the kids from my (very large) high school were there too. So yeah, they definitely seemed highly revered in the US. Pretty sure that tour was the peak of their popularity here. If they weren't popular in the US, they were at least incredibly popular where I went to school!

Don't know how I missed this channel,bloody hell! Great stuff. While I have been a Who fan for what seems like forever I don't think Tommy has held up as well as some of the other entries in their catalog. I find Quadrophenia has an intensity that's missing from Tommy. Different time and place in their recording evolution I get it. Not to say there aren't moments on Tommy that deserve admiration,but in retrospect the concept of the album today leaves me wanting and seems a bit trite. That's just my opinion of course and we know what they say about opinions! The Who Live at Leeds though continuously ends up on my Desert Island list,although I never seem to be able to keep it to 10 albums. 25 seems more realistic for me anyway. Keep up the great work. Love the channel!

Make yourself comfortable for a Cure gig. Three hours is about standard even today I hear. I last saw them way back on the Prayer Tour (the Disintegration album tour) at the NEC in 1988. Great gig. The front row unbolted their seats and were waving them above their heads at one point, which led Robert Smith to first thank them for the lovely gesture, but then to point out that the management told them that if the fans didn't put the seats back they'd pull the plug. Reluctantly the seats were lowered and refixed and the performance continued. A memorable moment.

Superb band, finally got to see them live last year in Edinburgh. Daltrey and Townshend are still a force to be reckoned with, even aged 80. Just listened to Magnolia Mountain on your recommendation. Very good - got some very Neil Young vibes from it, so it makes sense you're a fan of both. Genesis! Yeah, the 1983 self-titled album is great--esp. "Home by the Sea" and "Second Home by the Sea" and too "It's Gonna Get Better" (love that Tony Banks's reversed synthesizer "backward-masking" effect that opens and undergirds the song). Lamb (1975) is just stellar and one of the rare double albums I enjoy listening to all the way through. But I must, must, must give a shout out to one of my all-time favorite Genesis albums, their 2nd album, in fact, if really their first as a cohesive band & album: Trespass (1970): one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard. It is music perfection. Stagnation is the magnum opus, but every track is a masterful work of art with that dominant gorgeous medieval-folk aesthetic (except "The Knife," but as both matched on the album cover!) defining its progressive rock sound.

Some interesting, surprising choices there,fantastic to see Genesis at no.1. Like you I love them with Gabriel and Collins on vocals, probably up to Invisible Touch.
