Just welled up a few tears as they sang in harmony at the end, realizing that these two gents, so much a large part of our American culture, are both gone now. This was the only time Frank and Elvis ever did anything together. Elvis did do a movie called Speedway in 1968, with Nancy Sinatra whom you saw at the end here, at age 19.

He wasn't in war, he was in Germany, my home country. Here's a little story that the mother of my ex-boyfriend told me: Back then she worked for the Americans where Elvis was stationed. She once met him while she was working. She had a very low-level work like kitchen help or cleaner lady. I don't remember exactly what she said, only that it was low-level and hard work. Elvis started to talk to her and appreciated her work. The old lady was so full of joy when she told us the story. She said that he was such a humble, friendly and polite young man.

Sinatra wasn't trying to "Help Elvis". Elvis was already the biggest star in the world at that point. also in regard to Elvis's "Dance moves". You, like so many new to Elvis, don't realize that the Elvis's movements / dance moves that was so wild was in his first few years of fame. (1955-58) As a matter of fact after his army days Elvis was tame on stage in comparison. which was disappointing to many. Thank you for the video. we enjoy seeing YOU enjoy Elvis.

There's only one relatively full Elvis concert from the 50s preserved and compared to that his performances from the Arizona memorial fundraiser, the 68 Comeback Special, and his first few years in Vegas were not tame.

@@williamquinlan6153 His performance on The Milton Berle show June 5th, 1956 is right here on KZbin and I put the title of it in a comment to them. It shows exactly how Elvis moved prior to his Army days. There is plenty of footage on here of him on Ed Sullivan and other shows. He may have moved and was wild during the Vegas days, but he never danced the way he did before he got drafted and shafted as he says during his recorded concerts in 69. Also, after the army he spent the rest of his 20's stuck making those movies. They wanted to tame him and they did. However, he already set in motion the tidal wave that came afterwards. Vegas was wild, but it wasn't the same.

Funny Frank was kind of jealous of Elvis but after this performance and they did a lot of charity work together and became dear friends. React to his story "Elvis Presley King of Kindness" he was a generous humanitaian. Thanks Be blessed

Wow if this is the youngest you’ve seen Elvis you need to go back 5/6 years. So many great performances. Elvis was reserved here, maybe because he’d just come out of the Army and this was his first appearance or he was being respectful to Frank. Elvis knew how to move already, he’s holding back. You need to go back and see an even younger Elvis in action. Thank you for your reactions to Elvis love them 💙

Elvis had to be careful of how he moved. Before he went into the army they had burned him in effigy. Frank Sintra didn't have nice things to say about Elvis when he first started singing in the 50's but now paid Elvis more money than had ever been paid to any entertainer in history to come on his show. Elvis would not do another tv show for 6 years. The Colonel had out priced Elvis. Elvis would now do movies making more money than any other actor of that time. He would make 31 movies and 2 documentaries. Then the '68 Comeback put him back in live concerts. His fans couldn't believe it was all starting again. John Lennon of the Beatles said "Without Elvis there would be no beatles. Bruce Springsteen said, "if not for Elvis, I'd be selling encyclopedias. After this show Elvis and Frank Sinatra would become good friends. Thank you for showing this video. Elvis was in his prime here. Enjoyed it so much.

It was very common for the girls in the audience to scream during the earliest performances in rock-n-roll. Elvis, in particular, drove them wild with excitement during his opening act in the 195o's. When the drugs became more prevalent the noise came down because the audiences were stoned. He was also remembering the firestorm of being censored for his hip thrusts on the Ed Sullivan Show. So, he went to simple head movements to stir up a reaction from the crowd. This appearance immediately comes after his release from the Army, which is why the sideburns were not there. He went without them for the first years of his movie career and his music landscape underwent a seismic and cultural shift as when the Beatles landed in America after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. The British Invasion followed bring moptop haircuts, mutton chop sideburns, and a colorful explosion and relaxing of the way we behaved and dressed. So, what you are seeing here, is the authethetic last of the Elvis of the decade that borthed him. He was 25 years old, his beloved mother, Gladys, had passed away, and his future was being redefined for his Hollywood carer. My own mother used to say that Elvis was purdy. She was right. He was one handsome devil.

Elvis Presley's first hit was a song called That's Alright ( Mama ) in 1954. He was big in 1955 and there is plenty of footage on KZbin of him on all sorts of shows. He appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1956 and 1957 about 9 times. He was also on various other shows and this performance on The Milton Berle show will give you an idea of how Elvis moved, the title of the video is "Elvis Presley at Milton Berle Show (Live TV 5th June 1956) Full Appearance Remastered HD | S8 E13". Elvis wore sideburns until they drafted him into the Army. He was never fat until the last several years of his life when he was bouncing up and down with his weight. He suffered from chronic pain then and was very sick and using a lot of prescription medication. I'd say it began around 72 or so. He died in 77, so that isn't that long. Elvis was tame in these moves compared to prior to his Army stint. I've never watched any performance of him after that where he moved his hips the way he did before 1958.

He wasn't modeling after Sinatra, Elvis appeared on the show 21 days after being released from the Army. Elvis was known for his pompadour, when he was inducted into the Army, his hair was shaved off into a military buzz. It wasn't Sinatra helping Elvis it was actually the other way around. Elvis' appearance on Frank Sinatra’s TV special, significantly boosted Sinatra’s ratings and helped revitalize his career. Elvis’ presence helped bridge the generation gap between Sinatra’s traditional audience and the emerging youth market. This crossover appeal expanded Sinatra’s fan base and demonstrated his willingness to adapt to changing musical tastes. Elvis’ endorsement and participation in the show introduced Sinatra to a younger audience, who might not have been familiar with his music otherwise. This exposure helped Sinatra stay relevant in an era dominated by rock and roll.

The torch had already been passed by this time....this was 1960....Elvis made his name in about 56.... between 1958-1960 Elvis did his 2 yr national service ( no war)...Frank initially criticised Elvis and the rock n roll music but by 1960 he did the Welcome Home Elvis TV Special and I think had one of the biggest TV audiences of that year...Sammy Davis jnr was also there, and they became friends and Nancy Sinatra who made a movie with Elvis in the late 1960s...the side burns came back around 68/69 and we're a fashion thing ....nice review

The other 58% of viewers were over age 30 and split between whatever was being broadcast on the other 2 channels. NOTE - His 1968 NBC Comeback Special was the most watched television broadcast of the year and won an Emmy because of it. React to "Trying to Get to you" from that Elvis performance!

Following his comments in 1956, describing Elvis and rock ‘n’ roll as a “rancid aphrodisiac” performed by “cretinous goons”…Sinatra, like Ed Sullivan before him, was forced to bring Elvis on board as his ratings for his series of tv specials were so DIRE!! As a result, Col Parker, also forced him to pay a premium of $125,000 for just 8 minutes of screen time. Col then upped his price to $250,000 for a tv performance which priced him out of that market til 1968. Elvis completely songs Sinatra off the screen, even with Sinatra’s own material. Joey Bishop’s comment that a Sinatra release of Love Me Tender would sell about 2 million less comes over as harshly accurate!!

This was actually Elvis with tame dance moves compared to when he started in the mid 50's. He was absolutely at his wild peak then, even compared to his 60's and 70's era. He was nicknamed Elvis the Pelvis and they only used to show him from the waist up on TV because of his moves. You should see Elvis from the Milton Berle show in 1956 performing houndog. 1956 was the year elvis exploded and was just holding all positions in the top 10. Blew everyone else away.

When he arrived in West Germany, there was a big crowd of young people waiting to see him, & on his arrival back in America in 1960, without making a single record, there was another big crowd of young people screaming at the sight of him. It was a Big coup for Sinatra to get him on his show & Elvis was paid around $125,000 for less than 10 mins, which back then was huge money. Elvis began his career in 1954 already dancing, & the screaming started. He’s 25 here, & has modified his dancing style to more suit his age. He did not need any help from Frank or anyone else. After two years absence, he was still a big star.

Now he’s just starting his movie career after his military service. He had done a few good movies before his military service. Elvis with Frank Sinatra and Joey Bishop part of the Rat Pack. Try his song “Surrender” to demonstrate the power Elvis had in his voice in 1960. Amazing!

Some people said that Frank didn't like Elvis. Actually they became good friends. At the end of Elvis life Frank was concerned about Elvis' health. I think Elvis was 25 here Frank must have been in his 40's.

Elvis was 25 here and Frank was 45. Elvis was tame here, I think post Army his manager wanted to clean up Elvis as Col Parker and other older people thought rock & roll was perhaps just a fad. Elvis was all over tv 4 years earlier causing outrage due to his sexy dance moves. You can also see him dance in 3 of his 4 pre army movies. Have you watched the Jailhouse Rock song and dance routine from his 1957 movie titled Jailhouse Rock? His 1957 movie, Loving You, has loads of Elvis singing and dancing at age 22. Elvis was drafted in 1958, during peace time, many thought it was to get rid of him and his influence on the culture.

Still, they did not realize that Frank still had HIT songs thru the 60s and his Vegas era. New York, New York still was to come and My Kind of Town Chicago, Strangers in the night and of course My Way came out in 1969. So Frank was far from done...... Elvis already was a bit past his peak into the mid-60s and had his Comeback Special in the late 60s and into the 70s though his health progressively would decline.

@@davidw7 Past his peak? He was locked up in a movie contract for the majority of his 20's and still put out hit records. He then went on that 68 comeback special and half the country tuned in and STILL wanted ELVIS. In 69 and 70 Vegas, Elvis was on fire. It wasn't until around 72 when his chronic pain and health started to deteriorate and he was taking massive amounts of prescription medications that he began to falter. Though he still recorded great music. He was dead by 77 so that is not a lot of time to speak about. In his short life, Elvis became the KING not only of Rock N Roll, but of Music. He is in 23 Hall of fames, including Rock N Roll, Rhythm and Blues, Country and Gospel. You are speaking about him as though he were some fly by night entertainer and that is hilarious.

@@nycsue Boomer like me took it personal. Sadly, his career did not span as far as Frank's. Most do not. Some do comebacks like say Tina Turner spanning decades and the stars align. Some sadly, no matter who is to blame have drugs of any kind get them too early. Some still survive tarnished like say Judy Garland of no blame of her own and had comeback specials and concerts. Yes all deserve credit and are all part of American and Global musical history and legacy. The 60s were great in any and all music could become a hit song. From the legacy crooners like Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra to the newer ones then like Tom Jones and Engelbert Humperdink, to the protest groups like Peter, Paul and Mary, the Folk singer like John Denver, Motown groups like the Supremes who were up there with #1's like the Beatles, the Cali sound of the Beach Boys and even a Chuck Berry had a hit into the 70s with the My Dingaling song. Touring was a must and concerts then and able to do live shows and many had their own TV shows. From Andy Williams to Dean Martin had a TV show from 65 thru 74 and even Frank for 3 yrs 57 thru 60 and all FRANKS MOVIES he did. Tom Jones had a TV show and Englebert. So my point only was that Elvis was not alone, but sadly his career by how his health went into the 70s did not fully stop him but he no longer had hit songs. Suspicious Minds in 69 was his last and did go #1 the same year Frank had My Way go to #27 and #10 in the UK. Sure Frank and Elvis were at least one generation apart. Both left their mark on music, movies and live performances. Frank's just was able to span more decades. Neither were my generations as born in 59. 70s 80s were my decades and over in my shell when younger it was more the 80s while in the 20s of age. I mere APPRECIATE BOTH FRANK AND ELVIS AND REALLY DO NOT HAVE A BONE TO PICK. BOTH ARE LEGENDS.

Jane H … Have been waiting for 4 months for you to do another Elvis reaction, & was thrilled to see Jailhouse Rock music video just posted up, but I couldn’t watch it, as it said Members to the channel only. So disappointed, because you guys are my favourite reactors & I have really been enjoying your Elvis reactions, which is why I am subscribed to your channel, alone with my husband, but now we aren’t able to watch this latest Jailhouse Rock Elvis video.

Joey Bishop: part of The Rat Pack. Joey always managed to bring Frank, Dean, and Sammy back to Earth. Of note, the duet switches to big band accompaniment. That's Frank's world. Elvis holds his own, but Rock and Roll is his realm. Two different genres. Frank never went down the R&R road, and Elvis stuck to R&R, Gospel and R&B. Thanks for finding that clip. Loved it. And Nancy shows up at the end. Musical history on display.

Elvis could sing in any world and blow everyone there into the background....his versatility and success in many genres, with or without big bands, is testament to his phenomenal talent and skill as a singer and entertainer. But, nobody could do what Elvis could...that still stands even today with all the so-called technology advancements.
