Grew up in New Haven and still live in East Rock. BAR is okay but will never be held in the same regard as the Three Kings (Pepe's, Sally's and Modern). BAR is more of a place "to be seen". It's where the clubs and Yale crowd is but you can never consider it "OG New Haven Pizza"

BAR is great though - Been going there since the mid 90's when they first built the brick oven - biggest one I've ever seen and the pizza is right up there with the Big "3." Night life and dance club was the place to be back in the 90's - Saturday night and Wed night. Legendary spot!

I agree with him on Bar, it's a nice "bar pie", no pun intended, but it's not in the same league as the "Holy Trinity" of New Haven Pizza. Some people swear up and down that Bar is the best in New Haven, quite frankly they don't know what they are talking about. However, Pepe's is better than Modern, he's got that flipped, although that is a debate that can reasonably be had.

My husband and I went to NewHaven to eat at all the pizza places that we see on TV. After eating at what were considered the Top 4 pizza places, we just looked at each other and said “its OK but I’m just not crazy about such thin pizza. Then on the advice of 2 people we spoke to in town we went to Bar. Where we ate 3 different types (one being mashed potato) And we looked at each other and said “I GET IT”. Next time we are in New Haven we are only eating pizza at Bar.

Having worked in New Haven for many years and having had pizza almost every Friday night from the Big 4, I rank them 1) Modern 2) Pepe's 3) Sally's 4) Bar when it comes to cheese & pepperoni. 1:30 a.m. after a night of drinking, BAR is a 10 in my book. Somehow he ended up with a humane sized slice. Late night BAR slices are like tectonic plates. They are so big that you can flip the tip of slice back onto itself and then fold the slice in half. Again, having late night slices at BAR after a night on the town is like an oxygen mask.

I get a small because I like a thin, crispy pie. Plenty of NEBCo on tap there usually. Still like Pepe's smalls too. I'm not a clam guy though. If you want to got outside the NH style, try OTTO in Chester. Get a beer at the Little House brewery while you are out there.

You guys have to review Domenick's & Vinny's Pizza in Middlebury, CT. They aren't open Monday & Tuesdays. I feel their pizza is one if not the best in CT, however it has a very unique flavor, crust is spectacular, it doesn't flop at all but is phenomenal

@@cthulhurising666 I grew up with Domenic's too. But it isn't consistent in Waterbury unfortunately today like it once was while Roland & Guido made their name with their pie!! Middlebury is consistently the same as I remember it being from Wolcott Rd way back in the 70's, only difference was back then they used sliced mozzarella instead of shredded mozz that they use today. They cut & weigh the dough the same way, they use identical sauce, same amount of sauce is important too, and use the same ovens, temps, etc. Their pie rocks when done right.
