Does Pro Swimming Require Thought? + Chicago's Men's Only Golf Courses

On today's free swim we are joined by Danny and Chief. We get into our thoughts on the summer games, and how steroids may affect some sports more than others. Chief believes steroids would be non effective in a game like basketball, but very effective in swimming or track. He also believes sports like swimming or track require no thought. We later get into how there are 25 mens only golf courses are in the USA and 4 of them are in the Chicagoland area.

Chief there is so much race strategy in swimming, like knowing your competitors strengths and tendencies so you know when to keep gas in the tank and when to take it out/make your move. They’re not dumb goldfish just swimming around in there.

College swim coach here. While I would agree with Chief in that there’s not as much “in-game” strategy as something like basketball or football (the races are also substantially shorter than full length games which plays into it) there is a whole hell of a lot that goes on during training. The goal is to consistently think as much and as hard as you can about what you need to do right during training, that way during the race you can just go. Adjustments can be made in your own head during a race, but thats not something that a coach can signal to you, and it’s done under extreme physical pressure making those decisions very tough to focus through

Also Chief, if you look across any level of sports, whether that be college, high school, or 4th grade YMCA, the ratio between men and women competing in sports is about the same, slightly favoring women.
