Good podcast. Love watching y'all. Man bows have come a long way. I started out in the late 1960s with a Shakespeare fiberglass bow. Later I graduated to a browning "Bush bow" and eventually picked up a second hand Hoyt compound. I shot instinctively until I acquired the compound. Something about the "break" when the cams turned over and being able to hold the draw messed up my instinctive shooting. Maybe had I kept trying with the compound I could have gotten back to instinctive, but I opted for pins. I never competed but I was at a competition at Clemson and Fred Bear was there. He said if compounds had been around in his early years he would never have been noticed at an archer. I disagreed because it wasn't just Fred's shooting, it was his humble personality and his willingness to go the extra mile for his game. Fred was also a master woodsman.

Old man told me once to buy land because they aren't making it anymore. I am 70 and have killed a few in my time but like you I get a bigger kick out of seeing a young excited kid kill a nice deer. In our camp there is a youngster that thinks I am Daniel Boone. He always makes a bee line to my place to quiz me about what and where I have seen nice deer. Last year he finally got a nice one. I was thrilled. I enjoyed this video because it allowed me to see the man you are and not just the hunter.
@TheScamper442 ай бұрын
hi guys, just happened on u’r channel, and found a like soul. I’m over 60 yo as well, Tim. I live in N.E. AL, in the rolling foothills of the Appalachians. back in the late ‘70’s, early 80’s, we had a whole bunch of knuckle-heads, decided to do conservancy work here too. they brought in coyotes, 16 or., and released them in a tri-county area. we were just beginning to recover our quail and turkey pop.‘s, after the disaster called ‘cotton, or boll weevil poison’ - ‘DT.’. rabbit, ‘cane cutters, or swamp rabbit especially, were on the comeback too. WT-Deer had totally repopulated. all of the above, had all but been wiped out, between over-hunting from the late’20’s - ‘40, depression hit devastatingly hard here, and everyone ate what they could get. my grandmothers both tell stories of wading the creeks and rivers, poking their hands into holes in the clay-banks to catch catfish, (they call it noodling out West! my folks just called it hand-fishing; they were too poor to be able to afford a spinner and pole). anyhow, back to the coyotes reason I started this. I called a husband & wife game warden team I know, locals, and asked abt. the re-intro of coyotes in my / our area, and they immediately confirmed it. I asked them if they realized what a bad move this was, how it would totally disrupt wild game, not to speak of the small pet population; and yes, they affirmed. even said that when they discovered it, over a year before the plan was executed, they both wrote letters to all three co. commissions, local mayors, and the Gov. of AL. all went un-answered. I also wrote the Gov., expressing almost identical concerns that u stressed, regarding re-intro of the wolves to the lower 48. I got a nice reply letter, thanking me for my concerns, and that it would be passed along to the appropriate authorities for review. ultimately, it was all for naught - the coyotes were released. I believe that was in ‘82, or ‘83. within ten years, the quail, turkey and rabbit, as well as some types of squirrels - were reduced to remnant populations. the last quail hunt I went on, we jumped one bob white, and later, two hens. today, our deer pop.’s are beginning to be impacted, as well as some local cattle farmers, and dairy herds have suffered the loss of some calves that were dropped while on pasture - a big hit for the small farmers they are. I agree with everything u stated; appoint a true “Conservationist,” (and not a 22 - 24 yo fresh out of college book-learned type either, u know what I mean, right? everyone, all around this tri-co area is constantly “watching” for coyotes, and it’s a year round, shoot on site watch, u’d better believe it. this season, I’ve yet to see a coyote in the fields, nor in the woods. I hope we’re making a dent in the pop., but, as a realist, I know it’s a false hope. there’s no way to put that jeannie back in the proverbial lamp, all thanks to our “all-knowing” state wildlife agency. so, I get it, sir. we here, we get it better than most, cause we’ve lived it. great show @Tim, and daughter! that one section on conservancy made it a powerful show in and of itself! 😊

I firmly Beleive In the oldschool way. I grew up with the recurve, the first compound and climbing trees and sitting on limbs and homemade ground blinds. I've put in thousands of hours. I've lived a great life. It realy makes me laugh when i hear these social media kids when they talk about these fancy bows and broadheads and$500.00 lock on stands and $500 worth of sticks to climb the tree. It's kind of sad actuly. Because the upcoming youth think you have to have that stuff to hunt. I had mix match camo aluminum arrows with 6" veins and 1 brass pin when i really got good. It made you learn how to hunt. Not these days. It's all about money and private. And people everywhere.
