I've heard trains are only allowed a max speed of 25-30 mph underground (at least for this portion of the BART system), and that's because there's two sets of switches this Fremont train must cross over to access Lake Merritt Station. The slow speed is both a practical and safety move because there's turns in the Oakland tunnel, and it reduces the impact of any potential crash between trains.

I keep watching in hopes of seeing a few loved ones that live in Concord and work in Oatland BUT I USED TO RIDE, "THE METRO" ..in the DC AREA from 1968 til 1978 and the Miami "Metro" about the same time. Still waiting for the Orlando rail service
