Amazing book and amazing man. It's great to hear Robert's voice having been reading his books for so many years. The Master Game in particular changed my life and I constantly keep a copy near for reminders. Many many thanks for uploading this treasure.

@@xscape8908 It helped me to begin to change the priorities in my life. Reading books is one thing, but, contrary to what our mind might believe, just reading does not lead to much meaningful change in life. However, there are paths that can be followed that do allow for at least a possibility of real change in life. For me, this book began to answer questions that had before been impossible to answer; I decided that this path was valuable and worth attempting.

One with high ectomorphy and minimal muscle is unlikely to have the temperament to climb mountains, but due to growing up in a family milieu of high mesomorphy I acquired a temperament of climbing them anyway even with a systemic muscular deficiency. My conclusion is that body type is nature, whereas temperament is nurture. The great divide is between self-correction and self-justification. The most significant choice that we can make at any moment of the day, is between unconscious compulsive reaction and conscious creative response. Servant ego ties our shoes, etc. False ego 'has to' either have the best shoes or the worst shoes or no shoes at all due to self-importance.

This book was published in 1968. I remember reading "Be Here Now" in the 90s and became curious about Bhagavan Das (Bhagavan Das met Richard Alpert in India in 1967). I think in Bhagavan Das' memoir ("It's Here Now") he mentions "The Master Game". I believe that's what led me to picking up a copy. I recently discovered that DeRopp is the "Acid Guru" and neighbor (on "Sonoma Mountain Road") of Hunter S. Thompson referred to in the original Rolling Stone "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" article.

Thanks for your interesting reaction! I do think the 'Acid Guru' was Timothy Leary ('turn on, tune in, drop out'). Robert de Ropp speaks about only a very carefully controlled experimental use of drugs as a possibility to get glimses of other states of consciousness, which could be a motivation to provide the user with a game worth playing, the honest way.. He gives a clear warning about the misuse of drugs in The Master Game: "He who misuses psychedelics sacrifices his capacity to develop by persistently squandering those inner resources on which growth depends."

I resonate with some of its ideas like willingness to choose God's mind (or work-mind as in Gurdjieffs') and seeing our experience or situation in light of impersonalness rather than quickly taking it personally.

+20/20 Schakel | Can you post here any further information about the interview, which I believe may have originally been broadcast (and likely recorded) by New Dimensions Radio. Who is the interviewer? When was it recorded? (early-mid 1970s seems likely). I tried contacting New Dimensions Broadcasting about this around a year or two back - before I had ever heard it - but got no reply, (maybe they are either too busy or perhaps OGs who would have recorded early such interviews are no longer active in that organisation).

@@Bart12keys Many thanks. Maybe one day the interviewer will come across this, and post some info. I suppose in many ways it doesn't matter, as the content still resonates and speaks very strongly for itself.
