Explanations: 1) Kaioken and Spirit Bomb were learned "conviniently off-screen" from King Kai. 2) Yajirobei (fat guy with sword) is one of the character that did stuff in OG DragonBall: he was there the whole time, scared out of his mind, but came in clutch by cutting Vegeta's tail. 3) In the original show, Goku ask Krillin to spare Vegeta because he wants a rematch; this is because Saiyans love to battle strong opponents or just battle in general Also, congratulation on catching on Frieza's name being a pun on Freezer before anyone could explain it to you!

25:12 Excellent question! There's actually an explanation for that. Saiyan armor is designed specifically by Saiyans, the ones who can turn into giant apes, so they've made a literal one-size-fits-all armor suit. Gohan, however, was wearing plain old Earthling clothes.

Yajirobe, the rotund man with the sword, was introduced in the original Dragon Ball. He is a lazy and unmotivated but highly naturally talented ronin (a samurai with no master). When he helped Goku fight the offspring of Demon King Piccolo, he ate them. Has a thing for eating fallen foes, hence why he asked if he could eat the dead saiyan. He lives with the creator of the Senzu Beans.

"Why does King Kai hate Gregory so much?" That's one of those things that can be 100% explained by "It's a comedy parody." I can definitely see how it can be hard to distinguish between features that were part of Toriyama's parody of "Journey to the West" vs TFA's parody of said parody, though. Both make a lot of decisions based on "Yeah but it's funny."

The guy with the sword is Yajirobe, he was a minor character in the og Dragonball and is an even lesser one Z. There's not that much to him, he was a short term rival to Goku when they were young and now he lives with a talking cat. Also the time between fighting Raditz and Vegeta was a whole year, Goku didn't know Kaioken back then and the "Z fighters" were alot weaker back then

Kaioken is one of the two techniques he learned from King Kai (Kai, Kaioken, yeah). It lets him boost his strength for a heartbeat two-fold or three-fold (Kaioken times three) and so on... but if he boosts it more than his body is trained to handle, he will literally explode.

As Goku keeps going with fights, more often than not, he learns a new technique to give him an edge in combat. 6:25 when he was dead he trained with King Kai (the blue fat catfish-man on the tiny planet). Before that with the fight with his brother the best technique he had was the Kamehameha, and that one he learned from Master Roshi (the bald old guy with the goatee at the island house 9:05). And unfortunately in that fight that move was a bust. 9:15 That right there is Launch, a fan favorite character from the Original Dragon Ball that the Author literally forgot existed when writing Dragon Ball Z; fun fact, that same scene right there was from a non-canon filler episode that the writers for DBZA probably reused for that joke. 25:15 They did explain it in the non-abridged version of the show, simply put Vegeta's armor has "space science" applied to it that allows it to be very durable and super elastic. Gohan has regular tear able clothing. 28:15 the cannon version is much more asinine, Goku in cannon literally lets him go so he could get a better fight out of Vegeta next go around.

1) Goku went to King Kai's planet to get stronger and prepare for the battle against Nappa and Vegeta. That's where he learned the Kaioken and Spirit Bomb techniques. That's why he is much stronger than in the beginning. The actual show explains that a bit more. 2) The guy with the sword is Yajirobe. He's shown during the training episodes, but don't remember if they introduced him. 3) Goku is pretty dumb in the actual show but dumber here. He is smart when it comes to fighting, but he has the whole hero constantly showing villain mercy attribute. He will do it constantly. 4) The reason Vegeta kept his armor and Gohan didn't keep his clothes was because Saiyan armor expands to any size. Gohan just had regular fighting clothing. 5) Goku lost his tail when he was a kid.

So the reason Goku lets Vegeta go is a bit more than just "He said sorry, so its fine...". The Abridged version picks up a lot in Season 2 in basically all respects. Writing quality, jokes, editing and so on. But the biggest difference post Season 1 in my opinion, is the way they handle the overall story, as well as the characters. Season 1 is very much still pure spoof by comparison. The later seasons go more in depth following the story (its still abridged so some things are cut or simplified etc.) and into characters and their motivations. Here specifically, Goku lets Vegeta go ultimately because he is merciful, yes, he does not enjoy killing. But more than that, he is a Sayan like Vegeta. He's very aware that he is surrounded by people much, much weaker than him, and he enjoys nothing more than a challenge, so he lets Vegeta go knowing that this is a challenge to him, though one he also ultimately feels he can overcome (Though Vegeta is worse, Goku himself is not without hubris). This will be a repeating theme in the show. As to the "Why didn't Goku do this against his brother?" question, its because he couldn't. A big meme of the show is the power levels characters have, a direct in-universe measurement of their combat prowess. At the beginning of the show, Goku is somewhere in the low 400 area, I forget the exact numbers. For reference, the farmer with his gun in the very first episode is stated to have a Power Level of 5. Goku is the strongest fighter on earth, nobody except Piccolo really even rivals him at this point. Raditz had a PL of 1200. So immediately, the scaling kinda goes insane. Against the Sayans, the team takes on the plant life forms that have the same power as Raditz with ease. Piccolo I think is stated as being around 3500 at this point. So basically, he increased his own power tenfold during one year of training, which he actually spends mostly trying to train Gohan. Don't ask me how he did that, nobody knows, these levels are a meme for a reason. Nappa has a PL of 6000, Vegeta is 18000. Vegeta in ape form is 180000, though he is severely weakened at that point, so not fighting at full power or even close. Goku comes back from training in Heaven at a Level of 9100 (it's supposed to be 8100 I think but the translators made a mistake). His Kaioken technique lets him boost himself temporarily, overcoming the gap between Vegeta and himself, but he only just learned that whilst training in Heaven, it is mentioned very offhandedly. The scaling of power levels will not slow down, btw. and is abandoned at some point because it just gets to ridiculous levels. The highest power levels ever officially stated are over 100 Million, which is absolutely insane when you consider that Vegeta at a level of 18000 can already destroy planets on a whim.

the Kaioken converts physical power into extra Ki, however this breaks down the body to do it, and the conversation rate heavily depends on how well the technique is used. Goku can only really use the technique safely up to a x2 at that point, though he can use it at x3 in short bursts with minimal harm. However a x4 he can't do well yet so it burns a lot more inefficiently. However even if you use the technique properly you're slowly killing yourself for as long as you're burning physical power since it's gradually breaking down the muscles and bones for energy. The Spirit Bomb works similarly except it takes power externally and breaks down the fundamental energy of all things, though King Kai made Goku promise to only use ambient or freely given energy to fuel it as the Spirit Bomb is extremely dangerous to use to it's full potential and could easily destroy the whole planet, if not the whole solar system.

As other have said to your "why didn't they use this then" comments, it's been over a year since Radditz attacked, so all those alive spent that entire year trying to get as strong as possible, that's why both Kruillin and Piccolo were capable of defeating the Saibamen at Radditz's power level. Interesting tidbit that's glossed over in the abridged version, Goku only ended up with about 3-4 months of training because he spent (approximately): Four months running down snake way before falling off Another 3 months getting back to where he was before falling off Another couple of months getting used to the gravity of king kai's planet And also only learned techniques, Goku received no combat training from king kai. On another note that helps you understand the progression Goku went through, if he didn't fall off snake way he could have gotten to king kai's planet in just over 4 months, however it only took him a couple of hours to run back the other way

Still catching up. Yes I think it was covered post vid a couple times, Goku got a huge power upgrade, and new abilities with the King Kai training. Yes, in fact a lot of the background characters were more involved with things in original Dragon Ball, things just got bigger, so they cut down a bit on important cast, but made sure fan favorites kept showing up somewhere. As for Launch she's actually a frequently forgotten fan favorite. I forget how it happens, but she had some sort of ability where she would constantly flip from super nice and over accommodating woman with dark hair, into a super violent blond who frequently relied on machine guns and grenades. She kind of grew on the crew, and would come in as back ground help. But for some reason they never powered her up, and just remained side lined for most of DBZ. Krillin is mostly played for laughs, but he has been Goku's best long standing friend, and despite Krillin being mostly a joke character, his popularity, and frequent usefulness had more or less landed him in the position of being strongest normal Earthling in the series, having gotten pushed past his normal limits a few times now in DB Super. LOL The big guy who cut Vageta's tail is Yajirobe. He's also from Dragon Ball, both him, and a talking cat named Korin live on Korin's Tower. Yajirobe is also not as strong as the other human members, but as seen in this episode, he's still very fast, and his Katana skills are pretty up there when he gets the drop on some one. Yajirobe spends most of DBZ being Korin's messenger, and delivering the Senzu Beans that the both of them grow at the Tower. Vegeta's armor can expand, it's space armor. *shrug* It's a thing. And yes, Ghost Napa is the best Abridged character. Never existed in DBZ but he's such a good returning joke in the next story arc.

Most of the characters in the show were sort of an enemy at some point. When they first met Bulma, Ulong, Yamcha,Tien, Choatzu, and Piccolo were all enemies to start. Even his wife and her father both had a go at Goku, Chi Chi twice actually. So letting an opponent go and then later teaming up with them is sort of the life story of Goku

In the actual series, the rationale for Goku sparing opponents' lives is less stupid and more... well, the fact that he likes fighting and considers it worthwhile to save worthy opponents that give him the challenge he craves. So if an enemy is willing to surrender and leave without needing to be killed to stop them, Goku infinitely prefers that to needing to kill them and get rid of a source of a good fight.

Vegeta explained in the later episode in the original that the Sayian armor is extremely flexible. Regular clothes rip when a sayian or a hybrid sayian turns into great apes, but when they wear the Sayian armor, it won't rip when they transform.

He's like 20 times stronger then when he fought Radditz and even now he can only safely use kaioken x2. Yeah he used x3 here but that was actually really dangerous he was advised not to go over x2

Honestly, Yajirobe is Goku if he were lazier and more cowardly. He is always seen eating food and would rather do that than actually fight. Despite his lack of enthusiasm for fighting, he is quite fast and strong, and in the OG Dragon Ball, he killed Cymbal (Piccolo's brother; long story), whom he cooked and ATE (yes, I'm 100% serious about that). He also trained at the Lookout by Mr. Popo along with the other Z Fighters (you may have missed him because he was in the background) in preparation for the Saiyans' arrival. However, after the Saiyans actually landed on Earth, he once again tried not to get involved but is technically the first person to tell the public (i.e. those pesky reporters) about them after that one city was destroyed.

For what it's worth, DBZ never really did a good job of showing the cast learning new powers/techniques. As in almost all of them happen off screen other than a certain kind of power up that will become a mainstay later. Toriyama - the creator of the series - seemed to like focusing on the spectacle more than on the personal growth. Thankfully, TFS does a better job of helping with that branch of continuity after this arc!

I always thought it was interesting that, even if they didn’t kill Piccolo, the Dragon Balls remain inert for a year after you make a wish on them. Since Goku was wished back earlier that day, the Saiyans couldn’t get their wish right away. These videos were cut in such a way that you wouldn’t know how the fighters got stronger. All of them trained basically non-stop after Radditz was defeated in anticipation of his comrades’ arrival. If your team didn’t cut this, whomever you sourced these videos from must’ve. The uncut videos are out there.

The difference between Goku and Batman, is that Goku somehow tend to manage to make allies out of his old enemies (like Piccolo who not only helped fight the Saiyans but saved Goku's child) so the consequences of him letting evil people live are slightly less awful than Batman's xD Doesn't work every time though of course, some enemies can't be redeemed! For example, had he killed Piccolo when he was his enemy, Raditz would have destroyed the Earth. Not like Goku is smart enough to see this coming, but the track record makes him continuing to spare enemies look much less stupid than when Batman does it xD But you're right, that argument is so dumb, that's why it is mocked here "if he's sorry, there's nothing we can do" is a joke line, a parody of the philosophy of "killing him makes you as bad a him", and Vegeta immediately mocking that by stating that he still wants them dead and think they're idiots reinforces that. The Dragon Ball name puns are even dumber than you think. Frieza is an evil space emperor named after a refrigerator. All of his men and subjects are named after things you might find in a refrigerator. Pretty much every new group or family of characters you meet has some sort of naming convention like this. As far as Vegeta's armor goes, it gets explained later in the next Arc, but his is armor made for aliens of all sizes. It pretty much comes in one size and stretches to fit its user.
