Yup. Definitely.
@KilicArslanBahadur2 жыл бұрын
@@ChicagoReacts These are my favourites too! Aaand, while I do love Bricky's materials, I feel he sort of slacked on these two. Lets start with Nurgle. How people could start worshipping him? Well, this might begin for example with a disease devastating your village. You would pray to Nurgle to spare your people His gifts (diseases), and if you appease him enough, he just might (for now). If you’re far from the Imperium and the eyes of the Ecclesiarchy and the Inquisition, the process might repeat itself for decades. Eventually, this will pretty much become a yearly ritual, as in on the spring the diseases will come, so you will perform your annual sacrifices to the Grandfather, and they’ll go away. And from generation to generation, the cult will estabilish itself firmly. And then, the more perverted shenanigans might start, of course, such as choosing the bravest one from the village to take on the gifts of Papa Nurgle onto himself, not to mention that people might eventually start considering those gifts as actual boons. Nurgle, while spreading his diseases, will also make you impervious to pain, for example. The other thing that I like about Nurgle and his daemons, is that they are indeed pretty jovial and (in their own eyes) benevolent. That’s why you can often see them smiling, and that’s why they are refered to as (grand)fathers (yes, the greater daemons too, not just the Chaos God). The daemons truly believe, that the gifts of Nurgle are beneficial, and some of them will actually want to hug the enemies on the battlefield (resulting with their flesh instantly rotting, and their innards gushing through their mouths in a violent vomit throes; the daemon then will be like "Oopsie daisy, the human broke, how sad… I wonder why? Never mind, lets hug the next one!"). And of course, the tiny nurglings always have the most fun! Also, the thing with Nurgle is that he is not only a deity of decay, but also rebirth and growth. I brought up the annual cycle for a reason. In a way, he is also a patron of hope, but of a more grim and resigned type than Tzeentch. It’s just a certainty that bad things will eventually pass, and acceptance that things are what they are right now. A sort of a grim resolve and perseverance. And in the Warp, the realm of Nurgle is actually a garden, in which you can find all sorts of unspeakable abominations, that only vaguely resemble plants, but the quite common trees and flowers can be found there as well. As for Slaanesh, her domain is excess, but not just in terms of emotion. It is also all kinds of excellence. The greatest swordsmen, the greatest musicians, the greatest painters and what not. And of course there you can see the allure of She Who Thirsts, many an artist would turn to her for guidance and inspiration in their prayer. All those who strive for excellence, for self improvement, those who take just a little bit too much pride in their work can one day heed the whispers of the Prince of Pleasure. There’s actually a (really) short story, not really sure if it was canonical, but it does fit the lore, about a Sister of Battle that was so very, very pious, so devout and dilligent in all the rituals venerating the Emperor... She always was first to get to the morning prayers, the last to go to bed after the Vespers, always eager to prove herself the most humble, the most devoted, the most pious in the whole monastery. She even took onto herself the duties the other Sisters were assigned to, which of course was met not just with astoundment, but a mild irritation of those Sisters. And then someday an Inquisitor visited the monastery. And it turned out, that that Sister secretly fell to Slaanesh. It is of course most probable, that the Sister thought the voices whispering to her in the dark belong to the Emperor’s angels. Maybe in her hubris, she thought that the Emperor Himself talked to her. And that it is by His ordains she have made a hidden altar, the location of which she confessed to the Inquisitor after a good deal of... persuasion. And the symbols that she scribbled upon it with her own blood were indeed the holy sigils of the Master of the Mankind, revealed only to her. And that is indeed the true meaning of the "Innocence proves nothing" motto.

Ok, but consider: There is ZERO fulfillment in Slaanesh. No satisfaction, no end to the struggle for more. Excess in the worst way possible, enabled by a very, VERY obvious trap. The corruption of Nurgle is objectively the worst. So incredibly disgusting and painful that only the infectious mirth of Nurgle can ignore. For that matter, the 'joy' brought by Nurgle is only an illusion in an of itself. A madness inflicted on you by Nurgle. You do not get to choose to be happy about this, that is part of the disease. I will add that Tzeentch seems like a good choice because of the infinite knowledge and power on offer. Tzeentch takes joy in the plots of his followers so you get to pursue your own goal to your hearts content. That is, until Tzeentch or his followers stab you in the back for no reason, or worse, the stupidest reason you cannot even imagine because of overlapping and conflicting plans. Khorne is ironically the best patron of these. Exactly what his followers must pay and what they gain is right there on the table. Grow stronger so that your rivals can't defeat you and you get to sit pretty. You can even stave off the madness and bloodlust if you adhere to the martial discipline and honorable combatant aspects of Khorne. However, if you do slip up the corruption will catch you quick. but what a simple and savage corruption it is. Khorne cares not from where the blood flows, only that it does. Blood for the Blood God. Skulls for the Skull Throne. TL:DR There is no fulfilment in Slaanesh, Nurgle is disgusting and forces you to be happy, Tzeentch is a conniving backstabber. Khorne is honest and honorably violent and thus the best patron. Also Malice, god of conflict and the self consuming nature of Chaos itself exists and also does not exist.

@@kalebbest Tzeentch has the tendency to transform you into a puppet wether you like it or not, wether you're aware of it or not. your life or existence has no value for him. he is perhaps the worst god to profit from because you do not know if you wont be dust tomorrow. Slaanesh has that for them, they corrupt those who are willing. said willingness may be obtained through means and temptations. but you have to want said simple pleasures and emotions to begin with. also, they have the habit to screw with the senses. slaanesh doesn't give pain as we might see it. though they peel you like a banana and make you live ceaseless agony, said agony must stem from a wish, from something you draw some kind of pleasure from. a guy with a bullying kink gets the worst psychological torture for 20 years straight for example. and with time and corruption, none of it will be exactly pain, nor pleasure. but just every emotion blurred together. at this point you gain... bliss. a perfect existence of pure emotions and sensory overload. but... you know... 100 years of the worst otherwordly agony that shouldn't even be possible, like a daemonette playing the harp on your tendons, or caressing your brain with her hands under your own skull Nurgle is about stagnation, death, decay, rot, wither and rebirth. he is not a Benevolent god by nature, nor is he... disrupting for the sake of fucking shit up. he is about "everything, sometime, someway, somehow, has to die." he is order, he is nature. without trees dying, withering and rotting, there is no mycellium feeding plants, without death, there is no life. without a corpse-eating maggot, what would the bird eat, in turn, what would the prey bird eat, in turn what would the wolf eat, in turn who would help us hunt? and would we hunt? would we eat? would we even exist? also, it brings peace of mind. you have an ending. i have an ending, we all are destined to an ending, whatever it might be. but the cycle will continue. through chaos, something will live, then it will end somehow, perhaps by the hands of the necrons, which will themselves live on. nurgle's cycle will continue forevermore as for Khorne, this is simple, if you're honorable and worthy, while being useful to his slaughter (note that i did not say "you can fight", the nuance is important), you're welcome to enter the pit and get the best skills khorne's deamons has to offer whatever they might be, weaponsmithing, tank driving, recruits drilling, human smashing. so long as you keep showing you're worthy. and so long as you're not having any secrets of any kind. no real "good choice" to be fair. small side note: Nurgle's plagues are painful, Nurgle's corruption is not. that is the point of the death guard. they were tricked aboard a vessel in which Nurgle's rot was spreading. but since space marines can't really die from illnesses, they were basically festering horrifyingly without being able to die, turning that into the most extreme ceaseless agony. until a powerless Mortarion pleaded Nurgle to "save" them from this agony both him from his helplessness, and his sons from this horrid fate of being an undying virus' breeding ground. Nurgle did. by eating their souls, removing their ability to feel any kind of pain or nervous input, and blessing Typhus, Codename: Dickhead, by transforming him into a walking living Hive for parasitic plagued flies. and this is a common trope for any Nurgle creature. they do not feel pain once they are fully infected and corrupted. they are, however, still mostly sentient... kinda. (end of side note)

Cadia was destroyed during the 13th Black Crusade, which are incursions by Chaos from the Eye of Terror. Abbaddon The Despoiler, leader of the Black Legion, was so enraged by the tenacity of the forces on Cadia holding the line and refusing to surrender to Chaos that he threw an ancient Blackstone Fortress the size of a moon into Cadia, destroying it and marking a pyrrhic victory for Chaos because they had to destroy both their mission objective, and an irreplaceable space fortress to break the bastion of humanity that was holding Chaos back from invading the entire galaxy. "Cadia Stands" and "The Planet Cracked Before the Guard" are now common mantras to remember the fallen planet, which has become a martyr for the entire Imperium.

10:50 When it comes to the Chaos Gods being "good", let me explain it in the context of a regular person living in the 41st millennium. In general, life is pretty shitty on most human planets. The living conditions are horrendous, especially on hive cities. The food is awful. You work a lot in horrible, dangerous conditions. And people can get disillusioned with this. They can think "Is the God-Emperor even real? What has he ever done for me?" -For someone who finds comfort in Tzeentch, it might be as simple as hoping to change your life through knowledge. Books let you escape your horrible life through using your imagination. And then you learn things from books. Maybe a few heretical things. Maybe a few spells. And then you realize how powerful knowledge can make you. And how powerful spells can make you and then you cast off the Emperor because his Church tried to hide this from you. They wanted you to live in squalor and suffering for their own benefit. Now you can turn your old jerk for a boss into a bubbling pile of goo with a simple spell! You can rule over the people who oppressed you now thanks to Tzeentch who opened your eyes to the possiblities! -Slaanesh is very much about addiction, generally with anything that has to do with the 6 Senses. A cultist of Slaanesh, might have been a cook in some back-alley restaurant. All your life, you haven't had a lot of variety of food to eat or make, but to escape the dreary world you live in, you slowly start to experiment with different ingredients. And some of these dishes you make start to taste really really good. You realize that your the best chef around. But then these dishes start to get boring and you want something even better tasting. Next thing you know, you're butchering you neighbor to make a delicious cannibal meal and it just keeps getting worse. -For cultists of Khorne, it's generally about raw strength, power and the thrill of the fight. It's euphoric crushing others under your boot. It feels good knowing that nobody can be stronger than you, and by helping Khorne get stronger, he'll help you get stronger. -Nurgle is about giving up and giving in. Why constantly suffer? Why constantly worry about being sick? If you given in to Papa Nurgle, he'll kill all your nerves so you never feel pain again. Let him leech away your soul and become a host for his plagues, and you'll never have to worry about anything again.

Cadia, the short version: When Slaanesh was born the Eye of Terror appeared, this giant crack between our universe and the Warp. Many worlds are located close to the Eye, and Cadia is right at the doorstep; imagine if other worlds were lounging in the Eye's front yard, Cadia is sitting right under the mail slot at the door. What Bricky said in the previous video about Cadian children playing with lasguns, he was being literal. After the Horus Heresy a bunch of things happened, some primarchs died, others went into the Eye of Terror, and specifically Roboute Guilliman of the 13th legion got shanked with a poison blade and had to be placed in a stasis field to not die, and there he slumbered for 10000 years. Meanwhile, a guy named Abaddon the Despoiler took over the remnants of the Black Legion and led them on a number of Black Crusades, with the 13th crusade hitting Cadia. By sheer chance (or plot) a bunch of important characters found themselves on Cadia at the same time (Inquisitor Greyfax, Saint Celestine, Yvraine, etc.) This one guy named Belisarius Cawl was also there, he was a Mechanicus buddy of Guilliman who had been tasked with finding a way to heal Guilliman. As all these plot-relevant people are on Cadia, Cawl wants to study some pylons made by the Nekron (another xenos faction, think Egyptian space cyborg mummies) which have the sole purpose of keeping the Eye of Terror in check and possibly even close it for good. And then the 13th Black Crusade begins, and after much fighting, Abaddon uses his ship to divebomb the planet, triggering a chain reaction that cracked the planet into many pieces and broke the Nekron pylons, allowing the Eye of Terror to immediately unfold into the Cicatrix Maledictum splitting the galaxy in half. Luckily our plot-relevant characters escaped and engaged in their own adventure (the Celestinian Crusade), but the damage was done. Mind you, the Cadians have always been the biggest exports for the Imperial Guard, and they are very proud of it. It is said that "the planet broke before the Guard did". Rumor has it that to this day, there are chunks of the planet where you can hear the blasts of lasguns as Cadian guardsmen keep up the fight at the doorstep of the Eye of Terror. You know that poem, "do not go gently into that good night, rage against the dying of the light"? That is Warhammer 40000 in a nutshell. This sense of everything is absolutely screwed and we are all going to die, but we will go out on our own terms, Chaos will win eventually but we decide the time and place. The story of the Fall of Cadia perfectly encapsulates that feeling, we fall with one hand holding the trigger and the other flipping off the enemy.

13:11, I would say something Bricky doesn't address when explaining Chaos is the context of where Chaos comes from, which is elaborated through the War in Heaven. I won't go into detail, but basically it was a galactic wide war that lasted millions of years, caused trillions, quadrillions or innumerable deaths and had factions erase souls by consuming them, creating an imbalance in the afterlife-like dimension/Immaterium and polluted it into becoming the Warp, and spurring the Chaos Gods into action, whom consumed lots of other Gods that also inhabited the Immaterium. Chances are they absorbed the domains and spheres of influence of other gods, but don't let Bricky's very good although flawed explanation fool you: the Chaos Gods *are* inherently evil. There's "civilians" in the sense that there are people who do jobs and have lives that aren't directly *kill the enemy*. But the whole of the Imperium is basically centered on war material production, breeding, and warfare. You work in a farm, factory, or logistics center that exist for the express purpose to provide the imperium with the resources it needs to maintain its hegemony, and to survive. Iirc Lorgar is currently hiding in the warp from his brother Corvus (who wants to kill him, obvs) who has kinda turned into a vengeful bird-devil thing?? For the Aeldari. It should be noted that the "goes directly to slaneesh" part of them dying is slightly compensated for with devices called "soul stones" which effectively catch the souls of those who die close enough to one and store it away from slaneesh. The aeldari use these crystals to commune with their dead, learn from long dead warmasters, ask advice of long dead seers and advisors, and plug the souls of long dead legendary warriors into robot constructs so they can fight again and again. It's when you die away from one of these stones that is the most tragic and honorable death in aeldadi culture. 26:05 Spoiler Alert about Cadia (not really) Cadia was a bastion against the forces of Chaos trying to get deeper into the Galaxy from the Eye of Terror and it was almost constantly in a state of war. Thus Cadia created some of the best Imperial Guard Regiments in the Galaxy. Even if not all Guardsmen Regiments are from Cadia, most Guardsmen Regiments adopted the look and style of Cadia's regiments. They basically set the standard for what an Imperial Guard Regiment should be. You can always tell who is a Cadian because they have violet-colored eyes! Yeah anyways, Abbadon the Despoiler (leader of the Black Legion and the guy who is trying to unite the forces of Chaos against the Imperium), rammed a massive ancient alien ship called a Black Stone Fortress into Cadia and shattered the planet into pieces. Basically, "If I can't have Cadia, nobody can!" About Cadia: Cadia was a planet right on the doorstep of the Eye of Terror, and it was pretty much the perfect Imperial Guard base. Super good defenses and some of the most fanatically loyal and skilled guardsman out there. Abbadon the Despoiler, current Warmaster of Chaos and formerly the 1st captain of the Sons of Horus, decided he wanted it dead. Went and rounded up these gigantic weaponized space stations left behind by the ancient Eldar called the Blackstone Fortresses or, as the Eldar called them, the Talismans of Vaul. He tried to use them to destroy Cadia, bunch of space marine chapters pitched in for the defense, (my bois, the Iron Hands couldn’t make it because they were busy CHOKESLAMMING a daemonic incursion on their own homeworld) most of the Blackstone Fortresses were destroyed, so instead of getting to use the giant warp laser that they could do with those things, Abbadon just decided to use a few of his biggest ships to ram one of the Blackstone Fortresses directly into Cadia’s surface, destroying the planet. If you ever hear the phrase “the Planet broke before the Guard did,” that’s because even as the imperial fleet escaped the shards of the planet flying in all directions, they could still see the flashes of imperial lasguns from orbit, or rather, what used to be orbit. Even as their own homeworld was coming apart beneath their feet, the Cadians fought on.

Why the 4 gods and chaos are allways described as evil can have another side to it. I understand it this way: Chaos is neutral and devided in good and evil emotions stand in balance. Every god so has his 2 sides, but only if the manifestation of emotions stand in balance. We see that the human race is in endless war against all Xenos in the universe on the edge of getting eradicated. This leds to more negative emotions because of the constant flowing blood, destruction, fear and hate. So the emotions in the warp from all the soldiers are maybe overfilled with this onesided drive, so the chaos gods maybe are influenced by that and act more evil that they would do in balance. Just a theory
@ninjabreadman1993r2 жыл бұрын
The way I look at it is that Chaos is neither good nor evil. It's just that; Chaos. Now, it's evil from the galaxy's perspective because they'd rather not be murdered, but that's partly a product of living in such a grimdark setting; of course the Immaterium is gonna be a fucked up place when it's being fed by such a fucked up universe. In terms of morality, if we use the D&D alignment chart as an analogy, they don't fall on that 2-dimensional map. Their morality goes straight through the center through the third dimension. Chaos is kind of the definition of "Blue & Orange Morality." xD

There is also the thing about negative emotions being more extreme than positive ones. I mean, look at Slaanesh, for instance. Yes, technically they represent the simple happy pleasures in life as well. However going for the excessive thrills gives them far more power compared to that. Similarly with Khorne with simple anger or a soldier killing vs the melee murder "blood for the blood god" stuff. The latter gives him far more power. Hence the Gods themselves also encourage the negative aspects in their followers.

Most of this art is official. GW doesn't skip on the art budget. Yes, there are civilians. In fact, most of the time, even in hot spots for major conflicts you'll get a 500+ year gape before a planet is invaded again. Most planets never see war. Cadia was a bulwark to keep the Eye of Terror at bay (the main gateway the forces of Chaos use to invade) Abbadon the Despoiler (the main Chaos dude in current lore) successfully broke Cadia dragging the planet into the Warp and causing the galaxy to be split in half at the end of the 41st millennium. I kind of disagree with him on Chaos to be honest. It's very interpretive but like Nurgle. If you worship Nurgle you're probably never going to die. In fact, a lot of people turn to Nurgle, so they do not die. It'll make sure you become a vector for diseases but never let you succumb to them making you effectively immortal in a lot of cases. It's also the god of despair so the whole peace of mind thing is kind of contradictive to me. Same thing with Slaanesh and love. It's really just sensation. Love and lust are sensations, so Slaanesh is for it It'll just make you feel those sensations so much it'll be torturous. That said though, Chaos isn't bad until you use it too much, then it's horrible which is what Chaos will actively try to trap you with. But a lot of people have totally rode that line. Looking at Chaos and the Imperium it's kind of 2 sides of the same coin, just the Imperium tends to be more stable. Especially after the fall of Cadia ironically. That and if you're looking at the whole sacrifice thing, I mean I'd rather be killed to some corpse god then be burning alive for eternity because Magnus wanted a battery. Or I think anyone would eat a bullet over being part of the Daemonculaba. But it's kind of funny, a lot of people say they love to jump on the Slaanesh party but that's the 1 god I'm most terrified of. You look at what die hard Slaanesh stans do to themselves and other people, it's messed up. I guess that applies to every god but Slaanesh seems to be the ones you really need to save the last bullet for yourself. Well, them and the Dark Eldar but that's basically the same thing.

@gokbay3057 Жыл бұрын
Tzeentch is hope and change. But he is both change for the better and change for the worse. With Tzeentch there is no stability (that being Nurgle's domain), hence one of his titles also being "the Great Mutator".

Cadea was THE war planet. It was a whole planet who's main export was soldiers. It was covered in mysterious pillars of black stone that prevented demons from spawning on it, and was right next to the Eye of Terror, which made it the first line of defense for all the chaos demons and chaos marines who left the planet. It also served as a stitch that kept the eye of terror from expanding. After surviving 12 demon crusades, it finally fell to #13 when the chaos marines crashed a superweapon into it and cracked the planet in half.

Good old GW, tries to tell a story about Chaos winning. But Chaos is both A- pathetic because they haven't been able to win in Millennia (or else we wouldn't have the Status Quo of the setting) and B- loses hard when massive tournaments to determine lore expansion happen. Hence GW retconning Chaos defeats and trying to turn Failbaddon the Harmless into an actual intimidating villain by author fiat. Could be worse, at least they just killed Cadia rather than the entire universe (ahem. End Times).

The short version: Cadia, with its close proximity to the Eye of Terror, was holding back some horrible nonsense from spreading out into the rest of the galaxy. Chaos Space Marines didn’t like that, so they crashed a country sized ship into it and destroy the place.

I remember reading from one of the novels (10-15 years ago) about this "Chaos will win in the end". That is true, in a sense, but not all of the truth. Yes, Chaos will end the humanity in the end but the Tyranids will eat everything after that. Without mortal flesh and soul there is no Immaterium. Without life there is no Warp. so after the Humanity falls, the fall of Chaos is not far behind. After the Hive Fleets of Tyranids eat all and everything, there is nothing left of life to build. So teh Chaos gods will be entombed in their realm, only to rage against te reality that there is nothing left. ...And here is a nice little fun fact about this universe I read from yet another of the novels on time in my life. About the Horus Heresy. There were a Cabal that watched everything happening from the *outside*, they saw the terrible civil war humanity were in and they reached a conclusion: Horus must win. Why? So that after that the Humanity will devour itself as fast as possible and that way the rest of the Galaxy and Reality might survive. If the Emperor wins, there will be so terrible and so long war that it tears the Galaxy and reality apart and after that NO ONE will survive. Quess what happens? Is it a hot and fast or aeons long prolonghed battle?

You only like chaos because you don’t have any idea what it is to deal with chaos . But Slaanesh is before everything ( because this is what mostly happen when you deal with it ) rape and torture ( the kind of torture that put dark eldars to shame ) . Nurgle enjoys breaking his victims with the most horrifyingly painful sickness . And tzeench will make sure all you fail in everything and at some point will make you a chaos spawn on a whim . Chaos isn’t necessary for emotion and imagination, it is a byproduct of it and feed on it . They are bloated parasites nothing else .

The Chaos gods also represent more positive things: Khorne represents martial honour and skill, Tzeench is also about knowledge and hope, Nurgle represents nature and order, and Slaanesh love, art, creativity, etc. However, the way that mortals are, the dark forms of them are far more known.
