Just started the video, but on average, I make $50/hr tending bar. Its an amazing fall back job. Not for everyone, but its perfect for me. Currently Im 41 and single, no kids and I run my own business. The point being.....I have no problem getting home at 3:30 am three nights a week. Bartending is an phenomenal part time gig. I live in San Diego and my friend makes almost $100K a year bar tending only 4 shifts a week. I supplement my income making over $2k per month working 8 shifts per month!

I've also been in the industry for 15 years, mostly in kitchens but also as a server, headed to the bar to round out. But on topic, over these years I have learned that the guys make more money, bar & serving. The women tip as a flirt but the men find other males easier to open up to and feel chumy with. Where as females might get better tips from men that find them attractive but thats about it, women are very territorial and it can be hard to get tips from other woman no matter the quality of service. I used to think I made good money because of my average looks I tried to be comfortable in conversation and I read people VERY well, but then found the guys were making double what I make, and I did well with tips.

THIS. Especially about women being territorial. I honestly hate serving couples, in my experience, they tip the worst.

I completely agree. With this said, customer service trumps everything else. You need to create a great experience for your clients. Great video Jason!

Sex means nothing. Personality is everything. Put me next to the sexiest female bartender and my personality will make me way more money. I’ve worked in night clubs, dive bars, sports bars, restaurants, hotel bars and I’ve had the highest tip percentage. The strip club might be the only exception.

I agree, that's why I say quality of service (personality is part of this) makes the difference over all else. But you're missing the "all things being equal", I think girls, as an average across the industry, get a slight nod. Thanks for sharing Vic ;)

how do i get experience as a bartender if every place hiring already wants an experienced bartender? please answer anyone

Usually Juan, it's a matter of starting in a lower position in an establishment and working up into a bartending position, then you build experience from there. Thats how most bartenders get their start. The other option is to try and do private parties, either on your own or for a bartending staffing service. Although sometimes catering and staffing companies will want experience also. Lastly, if you have confidence in your skills, you can simply "fudge" your resume to show experience. I know a few people who got started that way. But be very careful though because if you get yourself into a place you're not ready for (high volume), you'll be found out instantly and likely be fired.

Anna Lane I just go by what I notice. Go to you’re local dive bar and you’ll most likely find a cute bartending chick with a lot of guys flirting with her. Upscale place you are likely going to find an older bar manager or suave male bartenders with business & family clientele where flirting isn’t the main factor awarding tips. But then maybe it wouldn’t be fair for me to say this since there is more men in the first place in these establishments that bar tend. Depends how you look at it I guess. Back to my beer

(I haven't watched the video yet) Wouldn't that depend on who is at the bar that night- males or females. I have females flock to the male bartender on some nights and the opposite if the bar was loaded with men.

Question . How to tell if a bartender is just being nice vs wants to be a friend or date you. Knew a bartender that I just happend to be sitting at the same bar with and he recognized me and have some things in common.he knows me from a bar that I'm semi regular at. We talked before about hanging out (when he was at a different bar at his day off). He said he would tx me. Any advice if he would be interested romantically ?

Hard to tell without more info about the situation... but long story short, if you give him your number and he calls or texts you back, you can usually assume he's interested in you. Friends or romantically, well that's for you guys to sort out ;)

women make better tips it's men that do most of the tipping and they'll tip a woman better than a man, women's idea of tipping a bartender is telling their man to give you a tip

As a 10 year veteran bartender, I would have to disagree. I’ve always had the highest tip percentage at every bar I worked at. And I worked next to some dope ass bartenders. Sex means nothing. Personality is everything
