Thank you. Having experienced a Bartholin cyst for many years this has been the clearest explanation. 👍

I had a patient that was using coconut oil as a moisturizer and lubricant and she got a blockage that turned into abscess of the lesser vestibular gland. It was incredibly painful for her. When researching, I found that coconut oil is very clogging to the skin. I suggested she use a PRID drawing salve and sitz bath with epsom salt for soaking and in 3 days it ruptured and she was able to extract the abscess on her own and problem solved.

I am a patient who struggles with Bartholin gland abscess. Twice it's been lanced by a doctor. I'm 70 now. As I age the skin is thinning. Moisturizing is crucial. Toilet paper can tear the duct. I have been able to manage inflammation with tea tree oil. I have to catch it early, day 1. Once I controlled it with a slice of fresh garlic . Twice I have had it inflame so badly it ruptured. That experience taught me to be conscious enough to catch it early. I was hoping to find others' Solutions here.

@@karinlarsen4251 tea tree oil may be drying. I would do salt sitzbaths, gently pat with hydrogen peroxide and try to apply manuka honey and jojoba mixture for moisture.

I had a bartholin abcess that was only partially drained at the gynecologist, a word catheter was put in and 2 days later it fell out and filled back up again which resulted in another visit and drainage that was unsuccessful, I left and still had a large pus filled gland and I was sent to MRI because she was unable to get to it and wanted to see if it was a mass. The MRI showed nothing and stated it was psychological but by this time I was so swollen and in so much pain I couldn’t walk, sit or lay down without excruciating discomfort. I was told to take antibiotics and that it might be swollen because they had made an incision twice in a week. However, three days later and right before I was going to the ER and the swelling was beyond anything I’ve experienced, the bartholin burst on its own, how come the MRI did not see this? I could barely walk in the day of the MRI and it was swollen, it got worse until it burst. 2-3 weeks later I still experience pain and almost like a hard lump that feels more like scarring ? Could nerves be damaged and that’s what is causing pain? It’s not swollen and it doesn’t feel like the first time when it was round and softer. What can I do in this situation when I still feel something but it doesn’t feel like it’s a swollen gland, more a painful scar, or could this be the gland again?

It’s absolutely not psychological and I’m sorry you were told that and went through this. I know how hard it is. I’ve been dealing with it for 5 years. It’s common the word catheter falls out and is usually not very successful. If the cyst continues to reoccur you may want to consider marsupialzation surgery where they go in and remove the gland completely. This is where I’m currently at. There is scar tissue if the gland was lanced and drained. Edit: marsuplization is actually where they make an incision and place sutures to allow for drainage. It’s less invasive than removing the entire gland. I just got this done last month and so far I’ve had great results!

Crazy that there are still people out there (including a notable pundit/influencer whose wife is a fucking doctor) who deny that these glands even exist in the first place. We insist not only on keeping our people ignorant, but also simultaneously misled and misinformed by people we inherently trust. If I had a nickel for every time time a fundagelical pastor either doesn’t know or deliberately lies about Lemon v Kurtznan (the landmark Supreme Court case that delineates lye boundary between church and state), I could personally pay for every one of those pastors to take a few weeks of a Constitutional Law course: for their sake AND The sake of all under their influence”

Yes. I am experiencing the same issue. It’s been going on for 5 years now. The last time it was lanced it was so painful that I would put it up there with childbirth. I have an appointment next month to see the surgeon about having the gland removed. I’m hoping the surgery is successful but I’m very nervous.
