Mate, you’re the first person I’ve ever seen mention the almighty Don FM. 105.7 was what started it all for me. Used to get signal all the way down in Sussex off a roof mounted fm aerial. I’d have been about 11.

Don, Flex and Dream over here in W.London having to fashion an aerial array out of speaker wire to pick up the signals clearly. Often got air traffic control interference from Heathrow over the top. Aged around 12 as I'd just started high school when I found the pirates.

@@Justin-TPG I was quite lucky, my Dad had a pretty sick Kenwood system at the time and had a proper roof mounted FM aerial system installed when we moved in, we lived in the sticks. Was always crystal clear, pretty close to gatwick, on the approach path and no interference. I remember calling for shouts every 30 minutes with my mates and getting a real buzz off just getting a shout back, raving around the living room. No class A's needed back then! Was all gravy till Dad got home... He used to get pissed off "with the noise". My Mum wasn't bothered... Oh how those paper cones used to flex....
