Filmed May 2015 at a preserved bus rally at Quorn railway station in Leicestershire, which is on the preserved Great Central Railway line where steam engines run regular passenger trains for enthusiasts on an 8 mile track, part of which is double track and the only example of its type in the country. Here are two surviving Barton Transport AEC Regent V's from 1960. One of them was running short trips on this day, while the other had turned up for static display only. Barton Transport was the local bus operator in my area when I was growing up and they also operated all around the country and abroad. At their height they were the largest privately owned bus operator in the UK. The bus operation and entire fleet were sold to the operators of Trent Buses in 1988.

AECs always purred wonderfully when they were in neutral. A whole range of sounds came from those beauties.

We used to live on Briar Gate in the 1980s and I used to take our dog for a walk in the evenings, and often saw a big new 'E' reg Plaxton Paramount DAF (or was it Volvo?) parked up at the top of Briar Gate and used to marvel how far Barton had come. Not long after there were old Leyland Nationals running around Long Eaton instead, one even in the silver/grey and red Trent livery! Mind you even after the takeover, when the modern Robin Hood livery was being phased in but some older coaches still wore the original, and most of the earlier Plaxton Panoramas had been moved on, I can remember catching an old 'L' reg one in Nottingham that had cracks in the fibreglass front end around the bumpers - it must have been one of the last ones still in the fleet! It must have been pushing twenty years old!

+rx6180 Hey, Mick! We have a vintage rail line here from Mt. Dora to Tavares that uses a steam locomotive for tours. Very nice to have a remembrance of the past! Thanks! :) Jack
