This channel should be sponsored by WST itself, it truly is that good! Thank you for giving us this nuggets of Wisdom Barry, all for free, it is more appreciated than you probably realise. It is helping tons of kids just getting into this hard game find their path around the glorious table without having access to any academy, not everyone is so fortunate! You’re a legend of a teacher in my eyes Barry, keep up your good work. Your “feel” and “understanding” of this beautiful game is as high as anyone, bar none! ❤

I used to use a mental power range of 1 to 10, but now it's all about the timing of the cue pace and how light or tight I'm gripping the cue. But I have to say, if I do not play for a week or two I go back to this power scale method to get the power memory back again. Great content as usual.

Hit the nail on the head for me with this one Steve! I find that a lot of the time the 'committing to the shot' & 'play confidently' ideas are often what work well for that natural feel. In a match it can be difficult to do though! This is a nice way to get that feel back. As always, thanks for putting these videos out here.

Ok. So I make all shots with number 4 power. Got it! ;)

Yeah true, most shots are played in this mid power range, only when you get out of position and the angles get really small or really big you need to hit either much harder or much softer

Steve another great video but is there a general rule of what path the cue ball will take after potting a ball? You mention that if you play stun on certain shots the cue ball comes off at a 90 degree angle. I think if I knew more where the cue ball was going after each shot I would be getting really high breaks

Great demonstration. Enjoy your content. Clive everton I recall mentioned 1 power as pocket weight shot. Distance from the pocket changes for different shots, so pocket weight or 1 power changes for a particular shot. Before we get down on the shot we need to make-up our minds is it pocket weight or double or treble or ... power shot that needs to be executed

Another brilliant coaching lesson 👏 I have a question in the last section rolling through for the straight pink instead of hitting harder can’t you just put top on the white to roll through at a one power 🤔
@BartonSnooker
@BartonSnooker Жыл бұрын
You can, but top-spin is always something we avoid as players. If you make a tiny mistake when hitting with top-spin (accidental hitting off centre), the white will be thrown off-line very quickly. Whereas if we hit in the middle, any accidental side will not throw the white off-line anything like as quickly or as pronounced. So it's much more forgiving. That's why I'm avoiding top in that example 👍

So, what do you do when you're just about to play it safe and take a dump shot, having decided on going with just a number 1, but suddenly you feel like you need a number 2?

Think it’s also good to follow the line with your eyes from the object ball to the desired position, I find it gives me more of a feel how far the cue ball needs to travel rather than just picking a spot. But I started like this in your video, just pick a speed and get a feel for it.

There needs to be a more objective way of measuring the power scale. For example starting with the cueball on the head string (in the D) you could say with No. 1 power you go from it to the end of the table and No 2. in power you go from the head string to the end of the table and up about say a foot or two.

Its a very good training method. I saw you have a big round circle sheet, is it customize or just a cut from a thin sheet of paper? I was looking high and low for a full round sheet but came up with different shapes or the 9/10 ball invisible rack. Its round with 4 pointed extension. Any advice?

do you have any tips for potting middle pocket from black / pink zones without going excessively soft? professionals seem to be able to do it with a fair bit of power

Its so difficult to execute a shot to know how much power where to strike the cue ball to pot the object ball and to position the cue ball for the next shot so much work for the brain to do in a few seconds credit to players on tv make it look so simple
