This was the best video on cue ball control I have ever seen

This video has definitely been one of the most helpful I've found to date. It's answered a question that I've been trying to work out as I go sort of , but not making any sense of it really!! Some shots that some beginners struggle with, like screwing the cue ball and even playing with side, I have been able to get to grips with quite fast, but the one that I really struggle to understand for some reason is the stun shot, maybe because in my head a top spin shot is obv, the ball goes forward, a screw shot , it comes back, but the stun shot I have really never fully got it strangely. When you said that the ball always comes off 90 degrees to the potting angle , that was a bit of a light bulb moment I think, it just makes sense now. It's also opend up my eyes to how little you have to move up and down the cueball for it to make it react differently. I have a tenancy to play with extreme top spin and screw etc, thinking that anything in between won't work, but from watching this I can see that's not the case. Great video, and brilliantly explained. Thanks 👌

Great video as always I wish I had this to refer to when I was a teenager to understand cue ball. I used to play the wrong shot assuming I needed side and it was all about power up and down the cue ball.

This is simple yet I had no idea that the cue ball starts at 90 degrees to object ball direction (after the strike). Looking forward to trying this drill at the club and I’m optimistic that knowing this will really help my positional play. Thank you!

I would love to see a demonstration of the same, but playing up the table between the baulk colours. I.e. getting the balance right of power and height when you're powering the shot to go in and out of baulk.

All of this is useless if your grip which delivers the cue is a mess. I've watched all your videos and tried everything during practice, but nothing seems to work for me. Later I learnt that it's cos I'm holding the cue incorrectly. Basically, my grip is either too tight or loose. I know you made a video around the grip, but would appreciate it if you could make a more detailed video around this technique. I'm sure there are many out there like me who are struggling with this bit, thanks!
@MrXeberdee
@MrXeberdee Жыл бұрын
Yeah an in depth grip video would be great. I realized that my grip was inconsistent, it changes through the shot and that plays a massive part in consistent potting. A slight rotation on the follow through or any part of the hand that touches and pushes the cue offline will cause a miss. I found that the fleshy part of the back of my hand occasionally was putting right hand side on the ball. Basically I am practising now almost entirely in the constant process of letting the cue move freely and completely parallel (for the most part) and straight without my hand in the feathers interfering with it's path. You can also do it at home. I keep as loose a grip as possible, mostly holding it with the first two fingers and as little thumb as possible. I made a slight rotation in my wrist so that I can follow the path of the cue without putting any pressure on it from side to side or up and down. It's more like the cue line controls the hand, rather than I'm controlling the cue - but then again it can't be too loose or I don't get any feedback. I tried a real heavy cue at one point (24oz), and I could feel it more touching parts of my hand - I missed much less as it seemed to hold it's own line better, but I changed back to my lighter cue (18oz) for cueing practise, the cue seems to move around a lot easier, so I think it's better for learning a perfect stroke.

This video is amazing, you have given us a clear picture of what's going with the cue-ball. Happy to learn from you, Just keep going! We wanted to learn more from you. Could you please explain about long pots in your upcoming videos, like how to pot them with accuracy, where should we aim at the cue ball. Does we require to give any spin while potting the long pots and stuff. Thank you !!!

The front one is the most important one. The back pause is less important. So bring the cue back smoothly and don't worry about the back pause.

Thx. Very helpful. I recently incorporated this helping side thing into my game and I am amazed how it helping me around black ball area. I am wondering 🤔 what types of standart shots are there where one use the check side "helping side"
@BartonSnooker
@BartonSnooker Жыл бұрын
Check side is very often NOT "helping side". If the cue ball is moving to the left and you add left side - that is helping side. If the cue ball is moving to the right and you add right side - that is helping side. If ever you add the OPPOSITE side to the direction the cue ball is moving, that is a lot harder to judge.

Hi Steve. Thanks for your great work. I have been watching your videos for years and helped me a lot. But, one thing i have trouble is i cant cue straight when attempting long or midrange srcew shot. Always put unwanted sidespin and miss the shot by mile . Short screw not bad Long follow through, not bad I've been taking advice from good players and tried to correct those few details, but didn't help at all. Any advice will be appreciated. Cheers

I’m having trouble with straight shots, I keep missing fractions to the left, it isn’t side on the cue ball as I’ve tested that, so it’s cueing or sighting is there a way of testing which it is?

Hi Steve! Great video as always. You helped me improve my game by alot. But I have a question and was hoping you could guide me (and possibly others with same issue) - whenever I get down to the shot I almost always feel the need to adjust the angle by a tiny fraction. I've tried trusting my gut and going with the angle chosen in my preshot routine. This doesn't always work, especially with more angled shots. With tiny adjustments I pot more often, like 4-5 out of 10, rather than 2-3. Is this a flaw? Should I try to fix it by adjusting in my PSR? Or is this a preference thing and doesn't change much in the long run? Cheers mate

Because it speeds the cue ball up very slightly. It doesn't change the angle, but does add a bit more speed. It's just nice to know it's not necessary though.
