I have left it a fraction short here, so I am gonna try bring it down an exhibition shot, off the other corners and back round, so lets see if we can get that right, not an easy thing to do, not an easy shot to get right, PROCEEDS TO PLAY WITH EXTREME LEFT SIDE WITH LITTLE TOP SPIN AND LANDS PERFECTLY ON THE BLACK. If I played that shot I would miss that pot all the time.

Omar - he played great shot on the pink, but actually once you "get it" - it is almost an auto shot - he's probably played that shot 100s of times, once you realise it doesnt need too much pace, because of the thin angle (speed stays on the white) - it is just getting the cushion before middle pocket, too hard and you go the other side and in-off in the yellow pocket :) - Spend 10 minutes at your club and you'll be able to do it !!!

I liked this. It's intriguing because of purely being able to see what you're applying on the cue ball. Some shots are just plain ball that when watching Pro Players play on TV, you wonder whether they'd played it with adding, Side, Screw-back or a Run-Through.

@@DrumsTheWord you're right. If I'm potting to my right, I'll use a touch of left hand side to help the pot. It just so happens in the video I'm potting more to my right. If I'm potting to my left, I'll use a touch of right hand side. As I say, you don't have to do that. It's just something some players do that feels more comfortable. I also use it lots of times in the video for positional reasons. Keeping the white away from the next ball.

I see most amateurs struggle to play with rest. And off late, they tend to learn to play with the other hand as they see it fancy. At my local club I go alone, set up practice routines, and have my phone recording me, im not even good but i have been working hard at cueing straighter like this and it has been paying off recently.. one day i will be good... hopefully 😂.. who cares if it looks silly most people at snooker clubs are weirdos anyway 🤪👌

I also found that Barton used some left side spin on most of his shots, even for very thick shots. I thought it was because his binocular vision was not good enough to let him see the centre point of the cue ball. Now, it sounds like it is just his playing style.

Just aim be focused and shoot the shot. And that’s really affective, it helps a lot, you create your own style. Hi there. Lots of players use side as you describe. Left when potting to your right..... Right when potting to your left. You don't have to do that, it's just some players naturally end up playing in that style. There is no advantage to doing it this way particularly. Lots of players actually do it without even realising this is how they play.

You are correct when you say that by playing with running side you can hit the object ball fuller. The advantage to this is that it offers more resistance to the cue ball which in turn gives you more control for the cue ball so yes it is an advantage.

When you were on that last pink, with that lefthand side topspin. How are you working out were to hit the pink with the deflection on the ball. Are you still aiming exactly the correct angle or compensating for the deflection which would mean not hitting the correct angle.???

Hi Kevin. I am allowing for the amount of left hand side applied to the white ball. So because I'm playing that shot at a pretty hard pace, I have to aim thinner than I normally would, the left hand side then throws the cue ball to the right, and hits the pink at the correct point to pot it. That's all experience and lots of touch and feel. Imagine taking a free kick in football. Kicking the ball and bending it around the wall and into the top of the net! That's all done by feel and experience. I'm doing the same thing on the pink 🙂

Hi Dermot, Thanks for watching 🙂 I think the only reason I didn't play the black that time, was that it was my first time using the head-cam and it felt a bit weird with something on my head. The pink was a slightly harder pot, but with automatic position. I'd have had to play the black with reverse side and time it really well. That's the only reason really.

Hitting the potting point on the white ball (where we need to hit the object ball) was a discussion I had with Mark Selby a few months back. He reckoned not to do that because of unintended side, I presume he must of meant if our cue delivery was not spot on straight. Any thoughts Steve?

BartonSnooker - it’s how I’ve always played the game and if you watch your own video back, look at where you’re striking the white on most shots. It is the contact point on the object ball.

@@believeandachievelifesucce221 I've never ever visualised the game in that way. I'm just playing to pot the object ball with a touch of 'helping side'. I never look for a specific point on the object ball as that is far too difficult. You can't pick a specific point on a spherical object. So I just judge the angles I need to make standing up, and that for me means playing a touch of helping side on a lot of shots. Not all players do it like that. I guess we're all describing the same thing in different ways. In my mind, I'm just judging the potting angle and that happens to be with a touch of side on the white. Nothing more too it than that. You don't have to play like me. Other players play plain ball and that works great for them. Lots of professionals play with the traces of side you see in this video.

I do truly enjoy playing snooker but alas I don't have a table readily available. I am guessing you have snooker rooms all over Great Britain but here in USA they are quite scarce. I would play snooker every day if I could. I thoroughly enjoy your videos; I subbed your channel a few months ago. Your cueing technique has influenced my own cueing for the better. My stroke is now more controlled and more compact than it was before...by the way I am talking about playing on a 9ft pool table - running balls and practicing drills. I believe good snooker helps improve pool but I have doubts that it works in the inverse. A good pool technique is not necessarily beneficial and does not really carry over to a good snooker technique...but I might be mistaken about that. What are your thoughts on that?

Hi there! You're exactly right. Snooker technique requires a lot more consistency and accuracy. So it works great implementing snooker technique into pool. We have many clubs here in the UK. Unfortunately not because it is way too difficult to get the cue and camera positioned that accurately. As it's based on where the head-cam fits, which eye a player uses to sight, how much the head is tilted when down on the shot and where the lens is positioned on the camera. So it is far too difficult to get it lined up perfectly. Thanks for watching 🙂

You're right about the power. Much more power and accuracy required if I stun it. And also, the margin of error for placing the white is tiny. Slightly too much screw and I end up low on the red and then HAVE to play a cannon. If I would have had slightly more angle on that pink, I indeed would have played the shot you suggest.

Left of centre when potting to my right, right of centre when potting to my left. You don't have to do it like that at all. That's just the way I do it. It's called 'helping side' and aids SOME players in sighting the shot better.
